I'm at the very end of my story. The climax has come and gone, and all that remains is the conclusion. The problem is that this story takes place amidst a rather staggeringly complicated set of circumstances, as per the world history/setting that I've concocted. I have a good feeling about today.

So I'm at 10,400 words with my story now. That's, what, about 2,000 words today? Awesome. Just wrote the climax of the story, too, so it should be smooth sailing to a May 12th completion upon rising.

Urkh. Okay, so I slacked a little and didn't do much writing over the last couple of days, but I corrected that this morning and am now at about 8,500 words, and closing in on the ending. This one definitely counts as two ( Read more... )

Fuck. I don't know if I like what I'm writing anymore. I spent so much time on the leadup to the ultimate predicament these poor buggers find themselves in that I'm at 7,000 words before they even start getting sick (which is, in a very real way, what the story is about). So...to anyone who knows or cares, what exactly fits the criteria for length as far as a short story is concerned? One book I've got puts a maximum wordage on a short story at about 6,000 words, which is backed up by some magazines I've seen asking for short stories of between 1,000 and 6,000 words. Yay for 1,000 words per day. More or less. Not everything I was hoping for, but a good start nonetheless. I'm at almost 3,500 words on the first short story (with the self-inflicted limit of 6,000 and I hope to get it done in the next couple of days.
