Have you seen this piece of news? What I find most amazing about this is that the different kinds of minority groups are banding together to back each other up on this (presumably without having been coerced into it), instead of staying Balkanized.

I got a creative writing independent study! I thought my application was totally shitty, so I was not anticipating this at all! So it's 2am (or should be) and I couldn't fall asleep
This is funny because I pulled an almost-all-nighter on Wednesday and haven't had the chance to catch up on sleep since. In fact, this morning, waking up was insanely difficult and I kept dozing off again while I was trying to do readings. It was bad. I wonder sometimes if birds have a genetic memory, some sort of racial sense of lost glory. I guess I'll be here for a while longer
I was at a free food event for dinner, and the guests of honor were these two alums, a married couple, who live in the area and turned out to have been two years apart in school. What jolted me, though, is that the older one stayed in the area for two years after graduating to be near his wife-to-be. They mentioned it like it was an of-course thing ( Read more... )
