best way to play with a child that age I've found. Is to just tickle them. They'll love you forever. I've done this thing with all the kids, my nieces and nephews, when they were young. I would make a buzzing sound while moving my index finger around in the air like a bee. Then tickle where their shoulder meets their neck. The kids still giggle when I make the buzzing sound. Some are almost 11 now. You'll be amazed at just how that works wonders on depression too.
I was fortunate to have a sister that had kids early so I got a head start of parenting. Used to watch them all the time when she worked. If you need anymore advice or anything just hit me up.
Give them anything that makes a noise =D or sparkle. You'll get the hang of things, and after that, it'll be a sinch for you. Deep down, you ARE a great mom, just give it time to come out. Remember, SPARKLY!
