I love that Ron gives his shoes and socks to Dobby. But why was Dobby barefoot? His favorite thing to wear was socks, so where were they? And none of Hermione's old hats. I know it doesn't matter, but I still wondered.
Draco's wand feels "friendly" to Harry. I know it's because he's won it, so the wand is respecting him as a new owner and all that, but I thought it was a funny description. Nothing in relation to Draco has ever been "friendly" to Harry before.
Am I meant to know, but not to seek? Did you know how hard I'd find that? Is that why you made it this difficult? So I'd have time to work that out?" Harry is figuring things out! I love it. And then he chooses horcruxes (and Ron doesn't understand why), but I think this is absolutely the best and one of the hardest decisions he's probably had to make up until this point.
When they're talking to Griphook, they are arguing about the right for wizards and goblins to own wands. Goblins aren't allowed to and Ron says, "Well, goblins can do magic without wands!" This further

Burying Dobby: Oh this is so achingly sad. I'm glad Harry has the sense to love and revere Dobby for all he's done. Quite an about-face from the exasperation he felt in the beginning.
Luna + Harry: FTW. She's wonderful. :)
Shell Cottage: It sounds like a positively wonderful place. I could use a place like that right now.
Fidelius: Ok, if the Weasley's are protected at Aunt Muriels under Fidelius, how is Bill telling Harry about it? *confused*
Harry's "prayer": He's smart! Finally, folks, he's figured it out! Am I meant to know, but not to see? Did you know how hard I'd find that? Is that why you made this so difficult? So I'd have time to figure that out? And Hermione was closer than she thought with her guess.
Griphook: He's an interesting creature. Sometimes he seems to respect Harry; other times he seems unable to look past the fact that he's another "wand-carrier"... Another throwback, I'd guess, to the tensions created around the general groups of opressed and opressors, whether individuals were

Voldemort & Hogwarts: I hate how he thinks of Hogwarts as his "birthright". It most certainly does not belong to him. Ollivander: Wandlore does seem like a very fascinating subject. Sometimes I wonder about Ollivander. He sometimes sounds a bit amazed with the Dark Lord...enthralled by his power. I do not believe that Ollivander wanted Voldemort to win though. It's just very interesting. But I agree, Ollivander is first and foremost a scholar. He is positively fascinated with the idea of combining Voldemort (terrible, but great power) with the Elder Wand (great power with a bad reputation). Griphook: He's such a goblin! I mean no disrespect to him for that. Wizards grow up with prejudices, but so do goblins. Sometimes both sides have to give in a little for the real story. Griphook is absolutely horrible. Luna: She's the best. Spaced out and definitely off her rocker, but absolutely brilliant and amazing.
"..then dragged off his own jacket and covered dobby in it... 'I want to do it properly, Not by magic...'...he dug with a kind of fury...for every drop of his sweat and every blister felt like a gift to the elf who had saved their lives.." I absolutely love Harry here. It's all so very raw and real. HARRY ILY.
"They jumped down into the hole...with spades of their own...and together they worked in silence..." This part reached out and ~touched my heart. So lovely.
"Luna...placed her fingers tenderly upon each of the elfs eyelids...'There, now he could be sleeping." kdfjgdfg Luna<3

I actually really liked Bill here. He is a little flustered at being invaded randomly, but I think he recovers well, and totally respects Harry as a man, once Harry shows him he deserves it.
I LOVE WANDLORE TOOOOOO!
I dunno, the Elder Wand is a cool name. :p
He's meant to know about the Hallows, understand their importance and meaning, but not to seek them, not to see that power & protection.
This chapter left me feeling a lot of different things at once...randomnesesAugust 22 2007, 22:08:07 UTC
I was wondering when the comm was going to be updated :)
1) Maybe I missed it but did they take the knife out of Dobby's chest?
2) Harry digging Dobby's grave = such a surprisingly powerful/moving/heart wrenching moment :(
"On Harry dug, deeper and deeper into the hard, cold earth, subsuming his grief in sweat, denying the pain in his scar. In the darkness, with nothing but the sound of his own breath and the rushing sea to keep him company..., the things that had happened at the Malfoys' returned to him, the things he had heard came back to him, and understanding blossomed in the darknes. ...
The steady rhythm of his arms beat time with his thoughts. Hallows...Horcruxes...Hallows...Horcurxes...Yet he no longer burned with that weird, obsessive longing. Loss and fear had snuffed it out: He felt as though he had been slapped awake again."
Damn bb &heartsl
3) Ha, I wonder how the interaction b/w Fleur and Hermione was.
4) Putting him into the jacket and...and Luna's little speech...and Harry's inscription ;_; I NEVER THOUGHT

I think Harry pulled the knife out of Dobby's chest at the very end of the last chapter, right before he takes his coat off and wraps him in it. So sad!!

I think Bill can tell them about it, but unless they are told specifically by Arthur, they wouldn't be able to get there.
