Not as powerful a line as "Ministry has fallen" but it's still one of those lines that sort of sprung at me unexpectedly and caused this huge flood of emotion.
I think the line is just as powerful as "The Ministry has fallen," but it just stirs up emotions in a different way. The line from Kingsley's Patronus made me nervous and fearful, while the line that Harry etches onto Dobby's gravestone stirred me in a sad, heart-wrenching way.
I never thought I'd miss Dobby, but this chapter definitely made me appreciate him more than ever.
Oh I am with you on the flood of emotion. I never thought fondly of Dobby but his heroic save and subsequent murder was just heartwrenching. I cried more at this part and his burial/funeral than any other part of the book!
Well, it looks like we're finally approaching the climax (with Harry talking to Griphook and Ollivander) but at least Harry has a wand he can truly use, even though it's not his 'own'.
Dobby's burial was touching, and the fact that it impressed Griphook may prove to be important!
dumbledore's bodylunylucyAugust 22 2007, 22:17:34 UTC
It was horrible the what Voldemort did to Dumbledore's grave, but all through it I was thinking, "There, there's a body. Albus is dead for sure, the theories can finally stop."
And Harry matures so much from this point on. He's almost my favorite character now. There's a theory that it's because he sort of owns all three Hallows now.
i love ron/dean coming down to dig and not saying a word, esp cause ron would probably be the least likely to do that before this. i love how luna goes from totally awkward to always having the right words of comfort. this part's pretty perfect.
"did you know that we've wanted elves to be freed for years?" (ron fidgeted uncomfortably on the arm of hermione's chair.) <3 this. we haven't seen funny ron in a while.
also i don't see why everyone's so pissed at hermione for not wanting to believe in the hallows. if they are real then harry already has 2/3 and she doesn't need to believe in the fairy tale to know about the wand. either way there's not alot they could have done about it. yes it's mildly annoying that she's stubborn but it's not really costing them a whole lot.
also nitpick: bill tells them the other weasleys are hiding at muriel's but he's not secret keeper for them.
I think Bill can tell them where the family is, but since he's not secret keeper, none of them would be able to go there until Arthur tells them "officially". But I dunno. Lupin shows up later in this chapter, and they cart Ollivander off to Muriel's, but Arthur was never there to give the secret to Ollivander and we've never seen Bill leave to be able to give the secret to Lupin.
Blah. I think I hate the Fidelius charm more than anything else, just because I can't figure out how it works. >:[
i'm pretty sure weeks pass between moving ollivander and his move to muriel's so i just assumed they'd arranged to inform them by then.
but yes, i want a full explanation from jo on this. i swear in OOTP when they mentioned kreacher's betrayal that he couldn't pass on any of the order's information because he wasn't secret keeper, so this let me to assume that the secret wasn't necessarily tied to a location, as he was able to part with info about sirius and harry's relationship.
I don't think the charm is what kept Kreacher from being able to give out the info on the Order. Didn't Sirius give Kreacher an order that he couldn't talk about anything that he overhears in regards to the Order? But he didn't tell him not to talk about himself and Harry, so there was a loophole that Kreacher figured out. gah!! I wish I had my OotP book so I could look! I lent it out, and I want it back! lol
Beginning bit breaks my heart. Harry's so determined to do it without magic and Ron with the socks and shoes...and LUNA. Jesus, I love that girl. It's just so sad, though...they're 17 and digging graves.
And the end, yee gods. I love Voldie talking about Hogwarts--"his first kingdom, his birthright"--and the last line. Brrr.
