11) What you said before about him being one giant ego? Yeah .... We get this, too, from the fact that he never thought any of his followers would figure out what he was doing, and an 18-year-old managed to. Also, did he not know what Draco was doing in the RoR last year? Did none of his followers give him an account of what happened?
DH:27 - The Final Hiding Place (Bloomsbury 2007)pica_scribitAugust 25 2007, 21:38:26 UTC
Italics are impressions from my first read, when I did not yet know what was going to happen.
For once I am posting more or less on time....
1) They're riding a frickin' DRAGON! Harry's worried about them plummeting to their deaths, and with good cause. Wouldn't it be funny if Jo decided to end the series with that? :p Ron is swearing loudly and continually, and Hermione is sobbing. She is really not a fan of the flying, is she?
2) Soon Voldemort will know what they are doing. Time is short, and so are the next few chapters. We must now officially be in the run-up to the climax of this book.
3) "three highly edible humans..." *giggle* Oh, that crazy Jo! She sure knows how to turn a phrase.
4) Hermione's Bag of Awesome is apparently waterproof as well. Excellent. That girl really did think of everything. And now the trio are stripping again to change into clean, dry, non-burned robes. Has anyone been keeping track of how many times Harry gets nekkid in this book?
5) It will be rather hard to keep the Gringotts

5)And indeed it was great for morale. It's one of the first things that Neville mentions when they meet up with him and Terry Boot is apparently punished for yelling about it in the Great Hall at dinner. Harry and co. have been in hiding for so long, it's great for their friends to know that they are still alive and that their deeds are the stuff of legends, even if no one understands what it is about.
7) I wondered about this too. Voldemort seems to have completely forgotten about his connection with Harry in this book. He doesn't seem to know when Harry is in his brain and he doesn't try to make the connection work in reverse. Meanwhile Harry can continue to spy on Voldemort through these frequent handy flashes that let the trio know where Voldemort is and what he's doing.
Chapter 27 The Final Hiding Placeannalisa_ljAugust 25 2007, 21:41:32 UTC
1) Behind him, whether from delight or fear he could not tell, Ron kept swearing at the top of his voice. They’ve just narrowly missed being burned and buried alive in treasure and then killed or captured by goblins. Now they’re escaping on the back of a dragon without any idea as to where they’re going or how they’re going to get off. I have my idea about why Ron is swearing and delight isn’t exactly what comes to mind! Although I could see some relief in there and letting off steam for what they have just been through. Harry is exhilarated by a dragon ride and Hermione is sobbing.
2) Not that they will ever be called on it due to the dire circumstances, but this is probably as blatant of a violation of the International Confederation of Wizards’ Stature of Secrecy as we’ve seen. Imagine the reaction of all of the muggles watching that dragon soar over London and away!
3) Harry realizes that Voldemort will soon know about the missing horcrux and then they will be into a race against time.
We're getting closer to the end....beatletteAugust 25 2007, 21:53:16 UTC
Short chapter but things are really beginning to happen!
Seriously much love to Ron ♥: "You sound like Hagrid," said Ron. "It's a dragon, Hermione, it can look after itself. It's us we need to worry about."
"Well I don't know how to break this to you," said Ron, but I think they might have noticed we broke into Gringotts."
Leave it to Ron to get everyone laughing ♥
Oh snap, Voldemort's pissed!!! And he's taking out his anger by killing people...You better run Bellatrix and Malfoy!
"he, the killer of Dumbledore": Pssh whatever Voldy, you WISH you killed DD.
Voldemort's listing the horocruxes in his (and Harry's head): way to go Volds. You just let Harry know some information.
Voldemort = hates trusting. Dumbledore and Harry = always trusting.
"I knew it." Damn Harry's got something right! Last one's at Hogwarts! Let the action and drama and intensity REALLY begin!!! (And this is where I REALLY can't put the book down)
"But we don't really fit--" *sniff* they're all so grown up.

Well, technically, it was the curse from the ring that weakened Dumbledore, and would have killed him within the year. So if Snape hadn't put an end to his misery, wouldn't it really have been Voldemort's curse that killed Dumbledore?
Re: We're getting closer to the end....beatletteAugust 25 2007, 22:35:43 UTC
I had a feeling someone would use that argument against me :-P It's true that the ring did weaken him (and the potion as well) but since Snape was the one who actually AK'd him--even on DD's orders-- I hold Snape responsible. But interesting you say that if it wasn't for Snape, would DD die? I think he would've so I guess it was easier for DD to just tell Snape to kill him.
But I what I meant for Voldemort killing DD-- he wishes he actually AK'd him.
"It's us we need to worry about." "What do you mean?" "Well, I think they might have noticed we broke into Gringotts." lol, Ron.
"How could Lord Voldemort not have known, if he, himself, the most important and precious, had been attacked, mutilated?"
Well Voldemort is just an arrogant bastard, isn't he? He's surprised that anybody could find out about his horcruxes, but as we know, more than just Harry knew about them. And Voldemort is actually scared (which quickly turns to anger), but for the first time in his life, he knows he is vulnerable. He also wonders how he wouldn't know if the horcruxes had been destroyed. Well, considering that he mutilated his own soul to create the horcruxes, why does he think if he didn't feel his soul ripping into pieces then, he'd be able to feel them being destroyed now?
"He alone knew where in Hogwarts he had stowed the horcrux, because he alone had plumbed the deepest secrets of that place."I was sure we were going to learn one final secret about Hogwarts, but when I realized he'd used the
