Favorite quotes part 1 and Remus and Tonks' death :(
But first I've got to say this about Remus and Tonks: I totally thought they really were just sleeping D: I mean, I didn't even like Tonks all that much but this part was just devestating. They died together just like Lily and James and just had a baby :( The connections are just...*shudder*
ANYWAY!
"It's obvious, isn't it?" Snape could no longer contain himself, but had jumped out from behind the bushes. Petunia shrieked and ran backward toward the swings, but Lily, though clearly startled, remained where she was. Snape seemed to regret his appearance. A dull flush of color mounted the sallow cheeks as he looked at Lily."What's obvious?" asked Lily

Har har, points to anyone who understands my icon XP The hilltop faded, and Harry stood in Dumbledore's office, and something was making a terrible sound, like a wounded animal. Snape was slumped forward in a chair and Dumbledore was standing over him, looking grim. After a moment or two, Snape raised his face, and he looked like a man who had lived a hundred years of misery since leaving the wild hilltop. "I thought...you were going...to keep her...safe..." [snip] "Her son lives. He has her eyes, precisely her eyes. You remember the shape and color of Lily Evans's eyes, I am sure?" "DON'T!" bellowed Snape. "Gone...dead..." "Is this remorse, Severus?" "I wish...I wish I were dead..." "And what use would that be to anyone?" said Dumbledore coldly. Snape wanted to die after Lily died ;_; I think that Dumbledore went a WEE bit too far during the OH HAY, U REMEMBER HER ~*~EYEZ~*~ RITE? part but Snape needed some tough love and that was an extra push towards his redemption."I have spied for you and lied for you, put myself in mortal

Ok, so I had tears in my eyes through most of this chapter.
It was one of my favourites in DH. It was all just so... I'm out of words.
But I do have one thing to say, I adored how James, Lily, Sirius and Snape ended in the same compartment on their first train ride to Hogwarts, before Lily and Snape left, of course. It only had Remus lacking but I'd imagine he'd sought out a compartment of his own because of his little hairy problem and the resulting need to be alone.
And also, I really hated how Dumbledore played with Snape, not telling him everything. But I understood why he couldn't tell about the Horcruxes.
This chapter broke my years long hatred for Snape. And made me cry for him.

The parallels to Harry's first experience on the Hogwart's Express and his run-in with Malfoy are pretty interesting. Except this time James Potter takes on Malfoy's role with a spin. "If they put me in Slytherin I think I'd leave, don't you?" That quote is almost verbatum, except that in book one the house referred to was Hufflepuff, not Slytherin.
"A bit of bad in the best of us and a bit of good in the worst," as they say.

Seems as though Remus was made to feel so much of an outcast that he also became self-isolating. Poor guy.
Despite my intense hatred for Snape, this was a sad chapter. I felt bad for him, but no matter all the Snape crap that gets thrown against the wall, here's what sticks: Snape was always an ass. And so, it turns out, was Dumbledore.

That was amazing. Even if the image of Snape producing a doe Patronus was in some way irreconcilably incongruous with his bat-like self.
Snape wins.
