Well, you get all kinds. In a tv show some time ago there was a German girl applying for a job who could not locate Germany on the map. She was applying for a job in a big hotel and could not name any European countries.

I'm glad for this couple of yours to get some new ideas. I wonder whether you told them that the leaning tower of Pisa survived a terrorist plane attack in the 17 hundreds.

Well, actually, the Vatican isn't part of Rome, but an independent country surrounded by Rome.

It really sounds as if they had to be joking. In any case, it could be turned into a song, along the lines of Brenda Sutton's "Don't Call Me Stupid."

Oh sweet gods and little fishes. I never cease to be embarrassed by my countrymen.

We keep hoping that Canada will annex Washington and Oregon and maybe northern California. Maybe the US could take Alberta in trade. I hear it's all oil and cows anyway; it should fit right in.
