[It's not at all strange to find people in the library. In fact, it might be the most normal, mundane activity a character can do. Aster is one of the people who enjoys sitting and reading for hours on end, researching every little thing he can get his hands on.

So it's not at all strange to find piles of books, nearly resembling a fort, in an ( Read more... )

[Goddess, he remembers Aster's habits from Sybak but this was just a little ridiculous wasn't it?

Richter maneuvers through the book fort at this own pace, stopping occasionally to take a look at what his friend was doing before continuing. He stops with a sigh once Aster's voice drifts down from higher up]

Somehow, I'm not surprised...

Aster!

[Hearing Richter's voice makes him go from full on concentration to attentive smiles in a few seconds. He lowers a hand, waves, and grins.]

Richter! It's good to see you.

[He raises up a book, the title probably impossible to see, and says cheerfully.]

I found so many great books up here. It's incredible.

[he doesn't wave back, just shakes his head with a hand on his hip]

That's nice to hear but did you have a plan for getting back down? [Richter's attention moves back to floor level. Shouldn't there be a ladder around here somewhere...?]

Not yet. I'm in the process of figuring it out.

[There should be one somewhere. That's how he got up there, at any rate. Maybe they took it far away when this short kid disappeared at the top.]

[muttered;] Still got a few screws loose in there...

[at normal volume;] Well, whatever those books are, they better be worth all this trouble. How you can keep that chipper attitude when you're stuck on top of bookshelves, I will never know.

[there aren't any ladders in the immediate area, so Richter will probably end up wandering off to retrieve one eventually]

They are!

[Richter might not agree. They're more than likely not worth all the trouble he went through to get him, but he believes they are. That's the important thing.]

There's no sense in getting upset. Besides, the view up here is nice.

[The view of so many books. He wants to read them all.]

[were this anyone else Richter was talking to, there would have most likely been a slightly incredulous 'Really?' reply... But since this was Aster - and a very pleased sounding one - he was dealing with, instead he just shakes his head]

I'll leave you to enjoy that view then. Give a shout when you feel like coming back down.

[he says he's going to leave but he's more than likely just wandering off to find a ladder for Aster to climb down]

I feel like coming down!

[No Richter where are you going come back! He's going to be stuck up here forever.

By the time he gets back, he'll figure out a way down with all his books. That's what he thinks at any rate.]

If could just find a way to throw the books down without damaging them.

[at least his height and his red hair makes it pretty easy to spot him still hanging around the piles of books]

Hm? That was fast.

[and he makes his way back] Looks like the ladder got moved a few aisles down... [he looks up at Aster before holding a hand out. If the blond felt like getting those books down, then Richter wouldn't mind catching them for him]

I'm more worried about you getting damaged than the books, honestly.

[It's because he thought you were going to leave. Aster doesn't need anymore lessons. He got one the hard way. When looking for top shelf books, do not get off to grab some from the opposite side.]

I thought as much.

[He looks down at Richter's hand and gets the hint right away. Richter wouldn't let them get hurt or hit the ground. Hopefully he's prepared for the pile. Aster reaches over carefully to grab one and holds it over the edge, prepared to drop it.]

The injuries I would sustain would be a few bruises. [Or a broken bone....] Imagine if the pages tore.

[there's a nod as Richter shifts his balance. Just in case the book decides to fly off in some random direction, at least he'll be ready.

But he still flinches slightly at Aster's response and if his voice is a bit strained, Richter blames it entirely on the ridiculous situation]

Even if I know First Aid it does not mean you should take advantage of it. And how many books should I be ready to catch anyway?

[Aster notes his tone and looks down to study Richter's face. He should probably be more cautious when leaning over the edges. For now, he drops it though.]

You don't have to worry about healing me. I'll be fine. Besides, it's safer up here than you think.

[Safe from a flood maybe. Turning back to the pile, he does a quick count.]

About ten it seems. Are you ready?

[muttered to himself;] It's when you say things like that...

[and called back up;] Ten? All right, ready when you are.

[He really tries to hear what Richter's saying, but gets distracted by the books. As he grabs one to toss down, he stares at it like it might the last time he sees it or he's just reading the cover.]

Okay. Here's the first one.

[Down it goes.]

[and Richter catches it no problem. He spares it a glance before setting it atop one of the (smaller) stacks of books that Aster has. So nonplussed by it all, is Richter]

One down.

[It's almost like he's used to this kind of tomfoolery. Oh Richter. Aster continues to drop them down in succession, watching to make sure one doesn't hit his friend in the face.]
