Summary: Raido gets ready for his date in an interesting way *coughsexcough*. Iruka leaves to meet Kyoko and Toshi on his own.

Groceries stowed and flowers placed carefully in a canvas bag, Iruka took a shower and set out a fresh uniform. He figured he would leave at 6:30 and drop by Raido's place to see if his friend was ready. The knock at the door surprised him, and he hurried to answer it, still in a light robe.

Raido stood outside, leaning against the door frame.

"You got my message," Iruka smiled, stepping back to allow Raido inside.

"Yeah, sorry about the security issues. Things have gotten...interesting."

Iruka frowned, walking back into his room. "That's not good," he said, but Raido shook his head. It wasn't something they could talk about.

"You want a shower?" Iruka offered.

"In a minute," Raido said before he pulled Iruka to him, kissing him.

"Bad day?" Iruka asked, breathless when Raido let him go.

Raido groaned and nodded against Iruka's ear before kissing him again, deeper this time.

"Raido, we don't have time for this right now," Iruka warned when Raido began to push him backwards against the bed, hands working the knot of Iruka's robe.

"You don't have any lube here, do you?"

Iruka shook his head, his head tipped back as Raido's mouth grazed his throat. "I didn't think to get any for here," he admitted, his voice thin.

Raido didn't answer as he dropped his vest to the floor, kissing Iruka repeatedly as he struggled to remove his own clothes.

"Raido," Iruka pleaded. "I just took a shower," he gasped as the robe slipped from his shoulders and he felt large hards on his bare waist.

"Shower, right. Soap. That'll work," Raido muttered, kicking off his pants. He pulled Iruka up from the bed, leaving the robe behind.

"We have twenty minutes," Iruka said quietly.

"More than enough time," Raido whispered against Iruka's mouth, half-carrying Iruka into the shower.

The shower cubicle was small, built for one, but the close quarters suited Raido perfectly. He lost himself in the feel of Iruka's skin against his, allowing Iruka to reach around and turn on the water. Raido sighed when he felt the hot water pelting his back, soothing tight muscles. They had to be quiet, he knew that. Iruka's building was only a revamped warehouse - the exterior was practically indestructible, but the thin interior walls offered only the illusion of privacy.

He lifted Iruka up, pressing the smaller man against the wall, legs braced on the opposite wall. Raido found the soap and rubbed it between their bodies, swallowing Iruka's low moans with another toe-curling kiss. He pushed against Iruka, shuddering at the sensations. One arm firmly under Iruka's hips, Raido lifted the other one, bracing it behind Iruka's shoulder as he rocked forward again and again, the shower filled with steam and smothered gasps. Faster, Raido thought, not because they didn't have time, but because Raido wanted it that way.

Iruka's hands clenched against Raido's shoulders. "Raido," Iruka whispered against Raido's cheek, then his voice caught, changing to a wavering, throaty 'ah' before tangling his hands in Raido's hair, kissing him fiercely.

Raido came hard, suddenly, nearly dropping Iruka in surprise. He stood there a few moments, breathing fast against Iruka's neck before he pulled back and allowed Iruka to stand on his own. They finished their shower in silence, still panting.

---

Exactly fifteen minutes later, Iruka was back where he started, lounging on his bed, this time minus the robe, and with the addition of a heavy weight across his body.

"Five minutes," he whispered, and Raido groaned.

"Honestly, Iruka, the only thing I really want to do tonight is curl up on Genma's sofa with you in my lap, preferably naked, and stare at the ceiling until it's time for bed."

"So pretty much exactly what you're doing right now," Iruka teased, prodding sensitive hipbones with his nails.

"Yeah," Raido sighed happily.

"How about I get up and get dressed, and I'll let them know you'll be a little late?" Iruka said as he slid from underneath Raido onto the wood floor. "You need to put on a clean uniform anyway."

"It's clean, Iruka."

"Was clean," Iruka corrected. "Until you dumped it in a heap on the floor. Now, it's a wrinkled mess." He was already dressed, winding the white wrappings around his legs. "We'll wait at the park until 7:30. If you stand me up, I'll be upset. Oh, I bought flowers, so just get dressed and show up, okay?"

Raido rolled onto his side, watching Iruka attach the shuriken holster. "Remind me why I'm the lucky one who's going out on a date. Because from my point of view, you should have made Genma go out with you."

Iruka snorted as he pulled his hair up and tied it tightly. "Because it pissed Genma off, remember?" He grinned as he looped the hitai-ate around his head and knotted it carefully.

"Yeah, it did, didn't it?" Raido chuckled. He sighed and closed his eyes. "Short nap, then I promise I'll show up." He smiled again when he felt Iruka's lips on his forehead.

"You better. I have it on good authority that I can't handle two women at once."

Raido might have wondered at that comment as Iruka left, but he was already asleep.

---

Iruka arrived at the park a few minutes before 7. He found a bench and sat down, putting the small canvas bag on the bench next to him. The sun had just set, and the park was mostly empty - most residents were busy shopping or running other errands. He stood up when he heard Toshi's greeting from across the road.

"Am I late?" she asked.

"No, I just got here," Iruka grinned back. It figured the two teachers would make it there on time. "We're missing some people," Iruka teased, grinning again when Toshi tossed her head in annoyance.

"Kyoko wasn't ready. Wardrobe catastrophe or something. I told her I would stall you as long as I could."

"It just so happens Raido is experiencing similar wardrobe problems. I said I would wait until 7:30, then I was going to ditch him." Toshi laughed at that. "Oh, here, this is for you," Iruka said suddenly, handing her one of the flowers.

"I thought I was your friend's date?" Toshi said, even as she gladly accepted the flower, sitting on the bench to attach it.

Iruka shrugged back and sat down again. "I must have had a premonition Raido would be late. But I never considered Kyoko might be late as well."

"We did set this up without consulting them," Toshi reminded him.

"I guess we can wait for a while, then," Iruka replied.

They sat on the bench and talked. Toshi was exactly as Iruka had remembered from that morning, carefree and fun and only slightly flirtatious. They asked each other questions about their jobs and their students, each intensely curious about life on the other side. Toshi taught at one of the smaller schools set up for younger children, as well as those children unlikely or unwilling to become ninja. While most of Toshi's students were civilians, she did have a few children from shinobi families.

About 7:20, Toshi laughed and pointed down the street. "Here comes Kyoko."

Iruka looked and tried not to laugh. Kyoko didn't look any different in his eyes, even her clothes seemed similar. "Um, Toshi, the little girl who sold me the flowers told me it was important to notice Kyoko's clothes, but I don't see any difference," he whispered frantically.

Toshi didn't know whether to laugh or sigh. "For one, she's not wearing her usual red." She watched Iruka's face, staring at Kyoko intently and nodding. She could practically see the man taking notes in his head. "And two, she's wearing her hair down."

Nodding again, Iruka kept listening. Kyoko was almost in front of them, waving frantically.

"And three, she has two live mice dangling from her ears."

Iruka nodded, then stopped, turning to look at Toshi in shock. He shook his head, laughing. "I can't believe I fell for that," he admitted, nudging her shoulder with his. "I guess that will teach me not to ask for your help again," he grinned, obviously teasing her back.

"Are you scamming on my date already, cousin?" Kyoko demanded, standing in front of them with an arch smile on her face.

Iruka stood up stiffly. He didn't know why, but Kyoko didn't set him at ease the way Toshi did. "Thank you for coming to meet me," he said formally, holding out the flower to her.

"Thanks for waiting," she cooed back, smiling at the flower. "Here, please help me put it on," she demanded, holding her wrist out.

Blushing slightly, Iruka fastened the flower to Kyoko's wrist, dropping her arm as soon as he could.

"Where's Toshi's date?"

"He got off late and needed to change. I told him we would wait until 7:30," Iruka explained.

It may have been one of the longest ten minutes of Iruka's life. He tried the normal compliments, but they came out strangled. He tried asking her questions, but Kyoko seemed slightly suspicious, her answers vague, sometimes even nonsensical. She kept scanning the park and shifting in her seat. Finally, Iruka stood up and stuffed the canvas bag in his waist pouch and excused himself to dispose of the flower boxes in a nearby trash barrel. As soon as he left, he could hear the two women whispering, Kyoko's voice fast and urgent, Toshi's soothing.

He tried not to listen, but ninja trained all of their senses well.

"Why not, Toshi? You seem to get along with him better."

"But what if the other one doesn't show? You'll just sulk all evening."

"I can beg off with a headache. He is so dull. How old is he anyway?"

Iruka chuckled, jumping easily from his spot to just behind the bench without either woman noticing. "I just turned 21," he said calmly, trying not to laugh when both women jumped off the bench.

"How did you do that?" Kyoko demanded, her face red.

"Ninja." He smiled, trying to tease her the way he had been teasing Toshi all evening. After all, the date couldn't get any worse if she was already considering an excuse to leave.

Kyoko narrowed her eyes for a second, then burst out laughing, drawing admiring glances from across the park. She had a lovely laugh, bright and clear. "How much did you hear?" she demanded, still laughing.

Iruka looked down, rubbing his cheek and kicking the bench leg a bit.

"That much, huh?" She giggled, covering her mouth and staring at her cousin.

Toshi looked stunned, unsure whether to join in Kyoko's laughter, or scold her cousin for such poor manners.

"It's okay, Toshi," Iruka said, waving his hand and sitting down again. "The point of a date is to get to know someone new. And you're right, Kyoko. I am kind of boring." He shrugged again.

Plopping down on the bench next to him, Kyoko stared at him, grinning. "You can't be that boring with a boyfriend like that guy," she teased.

"Kyoko!" Toshi groaned, sitting gingerly on the bench on Iruka's other side. "Iruka-sensei, please, forgive her. Kyoko, really. You can't just say things like that, especially in public. What if one of his students was around?"

Kyoko snorted and tossed her head again. "I don't hear him denying it, Toshi," she grinned again, watching Iruka carefully.

"Ummmm." Iruka could feel both women watching him and cringed when he felt the familiar heat across his cheeks. He looked across the park desperately, hoping to see Raido, but it was empty. "It's getting late, we should probably go on."

"You really think he's blown us off?" Toshi asked.

Iruka shook his head. "No, something else must have happened. He's not the sort to blow his friends off for no reason."

Standing up, he held both of his hands out to help the women up. They linked their arms with his and the three of them walked through the village, Toshi giving directions as they went. Kyoko seemed content, chattering happily about any number of subjects. Iruka didn't know what she was talking about half the time, but Toshi did, so he just smiled and kept walking.

He caught a flash of blonde hair out of the corner of his eye and turned his head, smiling when he saw Ino staring at him from a doorway. He smiled and angled his body a little, pointing at Toshi's wrist corsage. Ino smiled and clapped her hands, rushing across the street to tug on Toshi's skirt.

"Who's that?" Kyoko asked, curious.

Iruka laughed back, dropping Toshi's arm when Ino pulled her away. "One of the younger students. She helped me pick these out," he answered, indicating the flower on her wrist.

"She's so pretty," Kyoko breathed, staring at Ino's hair. "Ooo, look at that!" Her head turned as she caught sight of a display in one of the shops ahead. "Hey, I'll be right back, okay? Don't leave without me!"

Shaking his head, Iruka walked over to Toshi just as Ino pulled the woman's head to her ear, whispering.

"No, I don't think it's girly at all," Toshi was saying softly.

Ino whispered again, her hand hiding her mouth.

"He does?" Toshi gasped, smiling. "What kind?"

"Oh! I forgot to ask!" Ino exclaimed, clapping a hand over her mouth.

Iruka turned away, scratching his cheek. As expected, he felt a small hand on his pants, tugging gently. He kneeled down so Ino could whisper directly into his ear.

"Iruka-sensei, what kind of flowers do you like?"

"Ino-chan, did you tell her my secret?"

"She said it wasn't girly!" Ino exclaimed, her face falling.

"Really? She said that? Well, I guess that's okay," Iruka said quickly, buoying the young girl's spirits. "But I don't have a favorite."

Ino rolled her eyes and sighed. "You really haven't given this dating thing enough thought, Iruka-sensei," she grumbled.

"I promise I'll do better next time," Iruka said sincerely. It wasn't a lie - one day he would have to date.

Toshi waved goodbye as Ino skipped away, slipping her hand into the much larger one of the tall man standing nearby. He gave Iruka an odd look, then turned away.

"Who was that?" Kyoko gasped as she walked over, taking Iruka's arm again.

"Ino-chan's father."

"No wonder she's so pretty! Toshi, did you see him?" Kyoko leaned over, still gawking at the man as he walked down the street.

Toshi nodded, obviously as smitten as her cousin was. "Do you know him, Iruka?"

"Not really," Iruka chuckled. "I went on a few missions with his team when I was younger, but I haven't seen him in years. Ino-chan isn't one of my students yet." He looked behind him, smiling. "I doubt he even recognizes me."

"Why do you think that?" Toshi asked, turning back and hissing at her cousin to 'stop gawking, start walking'.

"For one thing, he's not yelling at me. I kind of, um, put worms in his pouch the last time we had a mission together. Earthworms."

Kyoko stopped and stared at him, her forehead crinkled. "You are a very hard person to figure out, Iruka. One minute, you're Mr. Boring Formal, the next you're the Jokester." She leaned closer, whispering. "You ask me out without any qualms, you're already dating one of the biggest perverts in the village, yet you're just as uptight as Toshi here when it comes to touching." She demonstrated by slamming her hand into Iruka's, forcing him to hold it. "See? Point proven!" she laughed when Iruka's face flushed and he shifted a little.

---

It was after 8 when they finally reached the restaurant, but it wasn't too crowded so they got a table quickly. Iruka found himself squeezed into a booth between the two women. As promised, it wasn't expensive, but the food was good. Toshi and Kyoko ordered for Iruka, explaining some of the best things weren't on the menu, while some of the menu items were truly terrible. Toshi knew one of the cooks, and Kyoko assured them the kitchen was always clean - the delivery boy told her so, and he carried stuff into just about every restaurant in Konoha.

After an hour, Iruka decided it was like going out with his friends when he was younger - the same sort of joking, teasing, and bickering. They shared all kinds of stories with him, mostly about growing up together. Kyoko was only a year older than he was, while Toshi was two years older than Kyoko. They shared an apartment, paid for by Kyoko's parents. Toshi never mentioned her parents, and Iruka had a feeling it wasn't something he should just bring up. They invited him over when they were done eating, after a minor tussle over the bill - Iruka won that one, with Kyoko's approval.

"I haven't paid for my own food in four years, cousin, and I'm not about to start now," she bragged. "Iruka invited us out. He got us flowers. It's still a date. So he can pay."

Iruka walked them home and left them at their doorway. "I still have some papers to grade," he explained with a small shrug. "And I need to check on Raido and make sure he's okay."

"You don't think something happened to him, do you?" Toshi asked.

"It's probably nothing. But..."

Kyoko nodded somberly. "One of the hazards of living in a shinobi village, right?"

"Right," Iruka agreed, his mind already half-gone, thinking about where he should start looking.

"We had fun," Toshi said softly, her hand on Iruka's arm.

"But this was just for fun, right?" Kyoko added. "I mean, you're not really interested in another romantic relationship."

Iruka sighed, then nodded. "It was kind of dare," he admitted with a small grin. "Not that I'm not happy I went out with you..."

"It's okay," Toshi grinned back. "It's nice to go out with a guy and not have to worry about how the date's going to end."

Kyoko wrapped her arm around Iruka's again, pulling him closer. "I'm glad it's not serious," she said softly. "Because I don't date younger men, and you're nice. Now I don't have to let you down easy." She winked at him, laughing at his confusion. "But if you ever want to do this again, as friends, I wouldn't say 'no'." She glanced sideways at her cousin and laughed again. "And I think my cousin here wouldn't say 'no' even if you wanted a real date."

Iruka looked over at Toshi, surprised to find the older woman had a slight blush on her face. "Ummm, I..." He exhaled noisily, unsure of how to respond.

"Kyoko," Toshi groaned, looking away.

"If...," Iruka started, then stopped. He shook his head, grinning to himself. "Thanks, Kyoko. I'll keep that in mind," he replied at last, waving as the two women walked up the stairs to their apartment.

Okay, that was unexpected, Iruka thought as he walked back to his apartment. Part of him was glad it was over, and part of him was already considering Kyoko's offer. It was nice to go out like this. He hadn't had a close female friend in years, not since Anko had left. They had been so young then, and Anko so rough, he hadn't even considered her a girl, just one of the guys. Except for that one time, he remembered, blushing. They had barely spoken to each other since she had returned to the village. He wondered if she even remembered.

Iruka saw the note on his door as soon as he reached the landing and nodded to himself. Something had come up. He scanned it quickly. Shaking his head, he let himself into his apartment and sat down on the bed for a few minutes. Finally, he stood up, grabbing his satchel - he could grade papers at Genma's place. Taking another look around the apartment, Iruka nodded and left.
