My favorite retreat isn't a place, it's more of a lack of place. My retreat of choice involves stepping outside of time. I've been leaving reality more and more as I've gotten older, as it's gotten more difficult to fit in. I was never very close to my mother. Neither of my parents, really, but I think I got along slightly better with my father. Perhaps that would have changed, had they survived long enough for me to become an adult, but I doubt it.
