Amazing Grace

Upon finding the crossover vessel, hereafter to be referred to simply as the Obama, I contacted Grace to try to ascertain what my next course of action should be. Apparently, I will not be able to get access to the crossover personnel, as they are in the custody of N. Madalyn Wang (known colloquially as “Mad Maddie” - in fact, many of the people on the station only know her by that “nickname”, so I am forced to employ it myself for the sake of clarity when she is the object of conversation). “Mad Maddie” is a apparently throwing some form of “tea party” for her prisoners - I did a search on Terran customs and references in the station's computer, and this may or may not be a reference to the tea party thrown by a character named “the Mad Hatter” in a novel called Through the Looking Glass. Given that “looking glass” is a Terran euphemism for “mirror,” and the crossovers are from what we refer to as “the mirror universe,” it seems that … no, even with the research I've performed, I still cannot find the logic in Ms. Wang's actions. Perhaps that is why they call her “Mad.”

In any event, I did contact Grace's uncle Travis, with whom I have had but minimal dealings in the past, and informed him of the Obama. I followed that up by telling Grace. I was not going to tell her earlier until I had determined what I planned to do; but once I had divulged the information to anybody, I had to tell her as well. Otherwise, when she received the information through other channels, she would resent my keeping secrets from her as we appear to have a temporary if undefined alliance. Travis has said that he will contact me later, and Grace plans to bring along Luke Spiegel (who is presumably a romantic interest of hers) once he has recovered from the injuries he suffered from the earlier fighting on the Promenade deck when the crossovers first arrived.

That leaves me and Grace alone with the knowledge of the Obama and access to it, which we are currently about to take advantage of. For whatever reason (I am also at a loss to attribute logical motivations to all of Grace's actions), she has loudly and publicly announced that we are about to return to her quarters for mating purposes. “Play along, no one will pay us any mind,” she whispered, before making that outrageous announcement. If no one is paying any mind to us, why is such a cover story needed? I had noted before that she prefered “loud” behavior that caused people to ignore and/or underestimate her; that is not how I have operated, however. Still, as the only Vulcan on this station, and consequently the only Vulcan that many of the personnel here have ever met, I have noticed the vast and numerous false or distorted beliefs that people have about Vulcans. Perhaps allowing them to think that I am succumbing to pon farr will make me the subject of humorous derision, and consequently also underestimated? I had never tried this gambit before; but now that this “card has been played,” it will be seven years before I can credibly play it again. I shall have to make the most of it.

Unfortunately, assuming that I am unable to leave Terok Nor on the Obama, this may result in problems two point four seven years hence when my actual pon farr is next due to occur. I have no plans as of yet for how I shall cope when that occurs; but obviously, I should not expect to so easily find a willing mate in reality, in the manner that Grace is currently providing as a cover story.
