Death

Apr 08, 2007 18:21

I've been thinking a lot about death lately. No, nothing specific, but as a general idea. Even typing that setance feels rediculous. How could something as present and every-day as death be considered an idea? Be honest: when I wrote that I was thinking about death a lot, you'd be lying if you're first thought wasn't "Why the HECK ( Read more... )

Considering it's the one thing that EVERYONE(minus Enoch) has in common, it is strange that death isn't talked about more. I think it's definitely a fear thing. And not only with non-Christians. Christians, too, who don't really understand what they receive through their salvation and what death really is. I love your ending line: "Death is not a question mark, it is a destination." Kind of a cool way of looking at it. God is the answer, when people sometimes ask the question of death.

Exactly. And as a disclamer, the guy that got me going on this is our very own Ted Dekker in "The Slumber of Christianity." He really slaps you into a new perspective. If you let it, it could change your life.

You'll have to borrow it. I can't thank you enough for it.

Yes, death for most is a scary thing. But as you said death no longer has its sting. We are just pilgrims passing by in this place they call earth, doing those things that the King has asked us to do. Being His hands and His feet. Fearing not the uncertainty of tomorrow by relishing in the moment that God allows us to serve Him. When done we go home. :) Oh Happy Day!!! Thanks for being my best friend and sister!!! Mom

*hugs* You are so awesome, Mom. And you have to read, "The Slumber of Christianity." It spells everything out. A lot of my ideas came from there. It's amazing. I think we carry a lot of our old life with us when we become Christians, that we forget that we're supposed to be thinking completely differently about these things.

Have the best of days.

"To die, would be an awfully big adventure."
Peter Pan much? I remember hearing it 'Finding Neverland' :)

Death is considered sad because of the fact that we won't be with that person. It is more of a selfish reason for why we are crying. At least at a Christian standpoint. We are very childish in the way of saying "I want them here" or even "I want to be with them."

And with today's society, the mind classified people into groups, and if you are talking about death, and you are talking about how you can't wait, you are considered something other than Christian. So there is a constant loop of what you are, what you are percieved to be, and how that shapes your outlook on situations.

Though I personally loved this entry.

Mandi and I have this thing with 'roids. So when you said the 'Heaven on roids' I snorted out loud.
It all stems back to one late night at Walmart when we were feeling a fabric of a pillow and Mandi said it felt like a poodle on roids... and never stopped.

haha, I'm the type of kid who joins a group called, "I Am Peter Pan." He's amazing.

Yeah, awesome thoughts. It's so sad saying goodbye to someone, expecially someone who you think "Shouldn't have to have died" because they were so young. It doesn't seem fair.

I'm so glad you loved it. I wasn't sure what reaction I would get.

You guys are awesome.

Awwwwwwwwwwww! *warm fuzzies* Thank you, thank you. And yes, thinking about it leads us to know there is nothing to fear. It's a waste not to recognize that. After all, it was dealt with 2,000 years ago...the least we can do is take advantage of it and live in expectation for eternity.

Love you forever,
Abby
