Today I got up around 9:30- seems to be my usual rising time for this journey so far. I think tomorrow will be an earlier morning, though. I did some internetting for a while and at noon we left to go register for the Fireweed (by the way... the Fireweed 400 is a bike race that goes from Sheep Mountain to Valdez Alaska and back. Today I went on a bike ride with my dad and rode along the Seward Highway for about 20 miles, then turned around into a traffic-infested highway and finished our ride. Granted, I wrote them all when I was really tired and wasn't paying too much attention to style- more just concerned with getting all of the details of my visit down... Today I wish I had done more- packing, bicycling, music making, whatever. I didn't do enough. I haven't started packing for Alaska and I leave at 2pm tomorrow. I know it will get done. Today was my last day in Minneapolis. Christopher and I got up around 9ish so we would have a little more time together and went out for breakfast at the Seward Cafe. The goal of today was to go on a bike ride to Christopher's dad's house- about a 40 mile ride to Wyoming, MN on Highway 61. We left around 11 and made it five miles- we turned up a hill off of Como and Christopher's chain broke. It was unrepairable- a broken link with parts lost- but luckily at the bottom of the hill was the 3 bus stop that took us ( Read more... )

It was so wonderful waking up with Christopher today. We got out of bed pretty late, probably around 10:30, and went down to Lake Street on the Light Rail. It was so fun riding the train again! We went to Saver's first and found a beautiful set of matching wine glasses (with a wide enough rim that my nose doesn't hit!) and also a nice cook book ( Read more... )

I woke up really early to get a good start on the day and the drive (5:30!) and finished packing. I think I left my house around 6am and drove like the Madwoman of Chaillot and reached Minneapolis by 11. I am so exhausted today. At 7 my dad and I left for a 37 mile bike ride- we rode a loop around Beloit and then came home for about two hours. We left again around 11:30 and rode around Lake Geneva where I experienced a few meltdowns near the 50 mile mark but I finished the 81 miles of the day. I left for Elkhorn (El Khorn?) at 7:30 to go on a bike ride with my dad and my eyes were mysteriously irritated on the drive over, but cleared up by the start of the bike ride.
