Motorola Xoom - Not ready for prime time

Mar 14, 2011 14:39

I wanted flash support. I also wanted 4G capability. The dual cameras were no big deal. The form factor..well, I'd rather have had iPad form factor since I have accessories for it. However, the Xoom called to me and I had to check it out ( Read more... )

I can still return the thing, and am really thinking about it. Very disappointed. It had such promise.

Sorry to hear that. I really am liking my little Nook Honeycomb, perhaps because I don't expect much from it at all and it seems to do a lot. What apps are not working, I have the major ones running on the Nook now.

Google Body, Task Manager, Power Manager, PocketCloud (that is supposedly optimized), Netflix, Yelp, US Traffic, and a bunch more I fired up then just deleted without noting them. It really is rather frustrating.

I never fail to feel impressed by the depths of your "geekitude[?]" "geekarship [?]" - well, you get the idea ("geekiness" just doesn't say it).

I really like the flexibility of android VS. apple especially in terms of home screen layout control. I also like the fact that hopefully there will me a usable memory card slot and some different variations on hardware.

However I played with the ipad 2 and hardware is sexy, and very light. The UI is very consistent and things do just work.

I'm hoping if I wait a little longer someone may release and android tablet that meets me needs. There are a bunch slated to be released in march/april.

thanks for the review

I had to try to troubleshoot a different Android based tablet a bit ago.

I'm sorry, but the thing was a piece of shit. The interface was incredibly clunky, and the wifi capability was laughable, in that if you held the thing within 6 feet of the router, it worked fine. Go straight down the stairs and into the dining room (basically still within line of sight, even) and the thing dropped connections like hot rocks. The iPad right next to it showed full strength bars.

They're just not ready for real people yet.
