Short, sharp, shock economics plays havoc in the economies of developing countries, when the shock in question is free-market capitalism. I don't see that the same tactic will fare any better with a more socialist agenda. I equally can't understand the stance that says that free-market capitalism is bad, therefore the EU should be less protectionist.
I'm firmly of the belief that through misguided attempts at 'helping' and trying to make the third world more like the west, western leaders have caused at least as many problems as they have solved, through poorly thought out, reactionary, interventionism.
On a side note, I also now have 'Fuck off Pigs' scrawled on the wall across the road from my house as well. I'm unimpressed and possibly shouldn't be trying to write coherently about a subject I studied a while ago when the one thing going through my head is 'bastards', so I'll stop there ;)
