A voter is me!

So, I figured out that I could file a change-of-address form at the polls and cast a "Special" (i.e. provisional) ballot. I went to do that and---what do you know, DC somehow knows my new address, even though I never got a new voter registration card! So my name was right there on the voter rolls, and I just voted normally. Where by "normally" I ( Read more... )

Yes, but I think they want to avoid forcing you to get official ID in order to vote. Since you should technically be able to live your life and have civil rights and stuff without having to get a passport or driver's license. Someone who knows legal stuff can explain it better, I imagine...

There's a major debate on the fraud issue at this point and there was a major court case on it.

If you think about it, you can't get too widespread a voter fraud that way. You would have to 1) know the person you were impersonating, 2) know they wouldn't show up (or you could be in trouble), and 3) only vote once per precinct or people will notice.

I also live and vote in DC and have it from a good source that the "little old ladies" who sit there and watch you sign you're name are actually all specially trained undercover handwriting analysis specialists. They have previously memorized the signature of every person who is registered in that precinct and can instantly detect a fraud. I dare you to try signing with your other hand next time. You'll be in handcuffs faster than you can quote (and spell) the name of the president of each of the former Soviet Republics! Oh, yeah, AND give each of his formal titles. [Dad]
