there are some good deals on houses around here...very tempting. on Sunday H asked if i could ever live in Suburb X because you can get fabulous homes for much less. it launched a series of passionate declarations from me, using phrases like "I might as well be dead" and "Your life is over". not just about living in Suburb X, but about buying a ( Read more... )

they are an illogical choice, but i can already feel myself getting pregnant just by being around all these babymakers. H's brother had a baby last week. we have visited them more often than ever, and if they turn their backs for too long we may run away with the helpless little pooping machine. oh, and they live in Suburb X.

Well there's suburbs... and then there's SUBURBS where your H and I grew up. I'm of the opinion that if you live in a suburb that is actually within reasonable transportation of a city then you can have your cake and eat it too. :) I could see myself moving to the outer edges of Queens or Brooklyn or Long Island (if I'm rich) and raising a family there.

And I hear that once you have kids you will enjoy spending money on them instead of yourself. Priority shift. It's a scary to have to blindly enter into that prospect though without knowing truly how you will feel once you have kids of your own. You're not a bad person. :P

i hear you on the part about it only being a good deal if it's still a good deal to someone else when the market bounces back. as for living in suburbia... i guess it comes down to how "suburban" it is. where we are is REALLY suburban.. and i completely agree that if you didn't have 2.5 kids, a dog and a goldfish, you'd probably be bored out of your mind. but i wonder, are the suburbs in the bay area equally suburban? funny how this recent trip to the bay area really emphasized how different our priorities are now than most of our friends' who are mostly single, or married w/o kids. same people, just different paths. sorry, long rambly comment... i was just thinking of this topic when your entry came up.

i wish we had gotten to see your kids! but you did seem giddy at getting to stay out like a non-parent with us :)

in the bay area, peninsula is definitely a not-so-bad suburb. but outside of that, i consider the rest to be so far from SF that they might as well be an airplane flight away.
