If someone is "athletic", what does that mean in your brain?

To me, it means that they are fit. I know that this is not always the case, but that's what it equivocates to in my little brain. Someone who is fit and enjoys playing a sport or sports of some kind.

For me, it implies that they can learn physically demanding tasks relatively easily and perform them well.

Actually, I think that's more a natural athelete. I have known people who were total clutzes that had trained themselves to be good at certain sports. Most of these people (in this convenient box in which I have put them in), I would not call them atheletic.

It's a word with many levels of meaning and could certainly change depending on context. I'd say the people in "Rope" were atheletic. Some of the people in "Moment of Flight" were and some were not.

High energy levels and good stamina. (Can go for hours, like a jack-hammer!) Good muscle tone, but not necessarily a chiseled physique.

"runner", mostly - specifically, the fitness, stamina and physique of someone who runs regularly and hard.
