Even if I get straight A's this semester, my cumulative GPA will only be 3.96. Yeah, you're saying "Only? Shut up, asshole." You're probably right, but, I was hoping I could get a 4.0, just to spite all the teachers that saw me only as average. Just to prove to myself, and everyone, that just because you sort shit like that out a little later in ( Read more... )

I'll tell you why you shouldn't. But you know that already, don't you?

I have always been insanely jealous of your intelligence. But honestly, how much does it matter to strive for perfection when the cost of perfection is endless busywork and other things that really arn't going to increase your learning. I think you already showed people you are much more than average with your ACT score and all the other amazing things you've done, ie. the awesome pictures you take for the paper! I hope you get into MIT because I can totally see you really excelling there. But don't have a heart attack about anything. You're going to really go places with your life and that's something not everyone has to ability to do.

I hardly think that .04 points added to your GPA are going to matter in the grand scheme of things. And to the people it does matter to... well, when you become a Rocket Scientist, you can condescend to explain why they don't.
And, if it helps, you have a way of making people feel stupid just by breathing the same air as them. Those who think those .04 points matter included.

Exactly. Mostly. There's not much difference between .25 and .04, either. When I become a rocket scientist, I can condescend to explain why such a difference eventually approaches 0. Why sometimes it's more important to focus on the concept, not the number.

Is OK ok?

Agreed.
This is the only reply I liked on here.
But...
A .4 does count if you feel like you've just setteled for less but you seem to relize you haven't.
You've really worked and it's that work ethic that will help you long after your GPA stops being a factor.

.4 also matters if you blow it on a breathilizer.
*nods*
Yup...cause that's scary.

Jared, you should care because although you are not your grades, your grades are yours. I know you're amazingly smart and talented. but, and with no ego whatsoever do i say this, so am I. So are hundreds of people. Intelligence and talent are not enough. I had the test scores to really go somewhere, I'm smart enough and gifted enough to have gotten full ride scholarships to many universities.....but i wasn't hardworking enough, so now i'm broke and going to CUD. Jared, those .04 grade points won't matter to the world after all is said and done.....once you graduate from college no one's going to look at that...but you'll know. Take it from someone who's taken the low road...you will regret it. spending your life knowing you can do better than you are, but never knowing just how much better because you won't try really is not a good plan. look to yourself, and you'll see that you care simply because you have standards for yourself, and that's good enough. in end, you're the only one you have anything to prove to.

That's the thing though. It might as well be all said and done. As of now there's very little difference between a 3.75 and a 3.96. I will not graduate with a 4.0. That's all there is to it. There's no point in killing myself over .21 very useless points. I would rather live with myself glad to have my health and sanity than look back and realize I killed myself my last semester of my senior year, the semester that's supposed to be the easiest, the most fun, for absolutely nothing. By now I'm pretty much in or out of whatever college. As far as scholarships, I'm going to graduate well above the minimum GPA for most academic ones. Purely and simply, I don't need to try this semester ( ... )

i just realized that i what i was typing and what i meant to say was not the same thing. so, let me start over.

1-i am by no means saying you are taking the low road. the only reason i spoke about my own slacking experience was really to tell you that I was a major slacker (with a capitol T), and you are not.

2-you should do your best, but not kill yourself. you have set some high standards for yourself, and taking it a little easy your second semester senior year would hardly break those standards.

3- your standards man, you're the only one who can tell whether or not you're satisfied with them, and personally, i think you should be satisfied and pretty damn proud with what you've accomplished through highschool. take it easy for a while and come down to the merc or paris with us sometime. (or sometime during the weekend because that's about the only time i can really do anything during the school year.)

for some reason it put me down as anonymous before, in any case, this is houdini, and that was me above. (also, i was telling you why you should care because you told me to tell you why you should care. trying to motivate you rather than criticize........i apologize for the misunderstanding, but the lack of subtlties and difficulty in picking up someone's true meaning on livejournal make for many misundersandings.)
