I have no idea why he was angry, but he is right. Unless there is a sign posted...no matter what is on the ground...it is true. It's not a true handicapped parking space. Isn't that...weird?
It's totally weird - but I think it has to do with visual impairment, and that is even more weird that someone can drive even if they can't see a 4 foot handicap symbol painted on the ground.
Still, it was dissapointing to be met with so much aggression on the issue. We thought we were doing the right thing. I think that the space is going to be fair game until the landlord posts a sign there - and we already contacted them so hopefully once the ground thaws it will be OFFICIAL.
The Target closest to my house has 4 spaces that have VERY faded & all-scuffed up blue handicapped symbols painted on them: the two closest to the front door have signs in front of them, the other two do not. Of the sign-less spaces, there's a big diagonal-line box between it & one of the signed spaces, but the 4th space is regular width with no buffering on either side. I'm inclined to agree that the spaces need a sign in front of them, but I'm more concerned about someone acting out of virtued vigilantiism keying my car in case they don't know the law about the signs. It is for that reason that I err on the side of caution.
