gurl, you may have been 'uncommunicative' towards me this summer. You know who else was? Nick and Heather and Dave and Tina and Jessica and Lynne and Maria and Eliza and Elizabeth and Keela and Rachel and Yuko and Professor Roberts' dog. And everyone else at Wells and and all but like, five of my high school friends.

The epidemic of college-goers who normally have a score or so of good friends during classes, but who neglect to regularly contact them on summer breaks is rising. Unfortunately, part of the reason this disease is so rampant is because it's completely freaking excusable. Half of the fun of returning to school is catching up with friends you haven't seen.

If your folks are truly trying to "point out a character flaw" through rudely dealing out harsh criticisms around your birthday, then it appears while your apparent 'flaw' is merely an accepted behavior for college kids, thier flaw is possession of heartless condescending vitriol where they ought to have consideration, compassion and manners.

Grr...

I thought it was b/c you didn't have internet access much...

Anyhow, you're not losing me as a friend, even if we don't talk a whole lot. You never were gonna lose me as a friend unless you like...slept with my boyfriend or something :P I wouldn't let your parents tell you exactly how you are...they might have some insight to you, but you gotta be yourself and you're more of an adult now, you know more about yourself. When you graduate, it's when you figure things out for "life" but hell, I'm just on the edges of that myself. Do what's true in your heart -- but, be practical. I would ignore my parents a lot when they said things about me wanting to be a writer and I would just fluff them off...but reality does set in, and bills need to be paid, but try not to let that all get in the way (if possible). So...just keep that head upon your shoulders, but feel free to let your mind wander and chase after it bebe. Love you!

I concur with Oren -- it's hard keeping touch over the summer, and I think everybody who knows you knows it's not because you don't care, because, um, Kristin=HUGE HEART ( ... )

I agree summer is a time to be away I think. Though working full-time does tend to stifle that away time. I have found your lj quite satisfying in my boring 9-5 job. I know we have not talked much but you shall never loose me as a friend. In case my card did not get to you...Happy Birthday. I must say I miss quite a few of you at wells. Though I think Wells has a bubble of its own...once you leave staying in contact with those there is rather difficult. But we all try our best. I think you are a great person and everyone is different it is part of this wonderful world (well some days). I wish I was there to help you move in. I am strong like ox :)

Hugs and luv,

HT

I can kinda relate but I won't say more till we're together in person hugging and loving each other and picking on each other and catching up--because that IS so much fun.

As Oren pointed out, I'm also one of those people who doesn't stay in close touch, but I AM there in spirit... er, at least if you need me I plan on being there, and um... whatever. What your rents did was shitty but this is the big test for us kids, moving on even when parents do these shitty dumb-ass things. Let's just try not to do those things to our kids if and when we have them... though we'll probably drive our kids crazy in our own way that we don't even notice.

Whatever, you're going back to Wells where people loooooooooove you, woohoo!!! And I'm going to visit you, YAY!
