quilts for the school's silent auction...

for this years silent auction, i made 3 quilts (one for each class group).
having never before made a quilt, i decided that an 80" by 80" multi-colored creations would be the best way to start!
each child drew a heart in magic marker and wrote thier name, i traced their hands a appliqued the heck out of them...the quilt tops took me 4 soild days of ( Read more... )

Hello these look fantastic and congratulations on raising so much money with the quilts too. I stumbled across your journal when I was looking for others who collect vintage costume jewellery so I hope you dont mind my posting this message to you.

I have not made a quilt before either but the hands idea is so good I may try using that with my kids hands on some other stuff I am making at the moment.

the heart and hand is a very traditional american quilt pattern (the pictures that the children drew were hearts)

I really love the idea. I was talking it over with Angelica my nine year old today about the hands and she thinks it is cool as well. We are going to use some of their special clothes which do not fit any more or stuff which has holes in the knees or is frayed around the edges but as they love the items they cant bare to get rid of them or throw them away. So this way they still get to enjoy their favourite patterns of clothes but on quilts instead :)
