OK, so this is when I'll admit that in our 8+ years of being together, I have NEVER bought my mate,
mikecoyote a gift. Not birthdays, not Christmas, not Yom Kippur. Never.
This year, I made up for all of that.
This was a collaboration between myself,
javacostumes and
bastekk. We started it about a month ago, when Mike was down in LA for Califur and a family visit. We managed to keep it a complete secret until the very last morning, when Mike caught me working at 5am and I had to shoo him away before he saw. (So he had to spend the WHOLE day wondering what I was up to...)
The whole thing started as kinda a joke. I was giving Mike a spanish lesson one night, mentioning that the burrito he was eating was really a "little male donkey". His mind immediately went to a little female donkey, a burrita, and how cute it'd be to make a pink donkey named Burrita. The rest, as they say, is history. I got most of the inspiration for the look from the donkey transformation scene from Pinnochio, especially how cutely pathetic and pleading all the donkeys were as they were being caged to be sold to the circus and salt mines.
The night of his birthday, I blindfolded him, dressed him in the suit, then stood him in front of the mirror and removed the blindfold.
The best part - I got video of Mike putting it on for the first time!
Click HERE for video For the first few seconds of the video, he has NO idea what he looks like. Then, he looks in the mirror ;)
I'm really happy to give my coyo a special birthday surprise, especially after the amazing surprise he got me for my birthday back in May.
HUGE thanks go to Java and Bastekk, without whom this would have never happened. I made most of the head, Java made the body, feet hooves and tail (plus helped with the cute details, like adding a pink bow and jingly bell to the tail, freckles to the cheek, and light pink eyelids). Bastekk made the hand hooves, the ears, and helped a ton with carving the muzzle and cheeks.
So now that I have a donkey...who wants to buy him for their circus?? ;)
