The Shape Of This Mirror

I value the thoughts of others a great deal. When I can I like to listen, and when not listening, to read.
Consider this, then, a request made my the author, to ask yourself a few brief but important questions before posting replies or making comments:

  • Would you say what you're going to type to the person you're directing it at? If you don't know ( Read more... )

Yeah, I know I occasionally fall prey to this. Just hit me back when I'm doing it; with one caveat: I'll try to not fall victim to group-think; if I do, try not to be confrontational about it. Just let me know I'm doing it.

    Deal?

    Huh.

Is there a reason why you decided to respond to this now?
It's like the frontage for my journal... it'd been here like 4-5 months now?

Sure... yeah... I'll let you know if you do group think.

Did you just now look at my journal as my journal and not through your friend's list?

No, I'd read it before. But I was clicking on your journal, saw this post, and it seemed more "real" to me suddenly.

    Oh, cool.
I'm not sure why I'm thankful, but thanks for regarding it as more real.

Would you say what you're going to type to the person you're directing it at? If you don't know them, would you say it to a stranger? I'm trying to make it feel friendly here, at least for myself.

I typically have the exact opposite problem. By the time I'm finished typing something out, I've usually had the chance to think it over and decide if it's something that I really want to say to a person. It's face-to-face conversations where I tend to step foolishly; my mouth is typically about five seconds ahead of whatever part of the brain regulates impulse control.

On a semi-related note, it was great seeing you at the party.

It was good seeing you at the party too, man.

We should endeavor to hang out once when it's not a crowd of people we already know better than one another.
