Whimsy

Just as I was really getting psyched up to write more in LJ... the urge kind of dissipated.
Part of me wants to go and find a host of new people's LJ's to read... see if the encounter with new minds and new points of view rejuvenates the draw to the thing for me. Another part wants to just PDF the journal and close up shop, either ending the whole ( Read more... )

"A few words here about following people. People know they're being followed when they turn around and see someone following them. They can't tell they're being followed if you get there first."

I submitted my application a year ago, complete with the page indicating schedule availability. I was contacted a few weeks later by a woman asking me to help staff a public event that was clearly on one of the days I listed as completely and totally unavailable. I wrote her back apologizing and offering, as I had stated on my application, to work in the office during my listed available hours in organizing and preserving their archival collections (my area of interest & knowledge).

I never heard from them again.

And they were never heard from... again...

Sounds like a volunteer organization rule rather than the exception.
It's cool: if I have to stay on top of them for them to let me help them, that's no problem for me. I'll probably get more benefit out of the time spent with them than they will, so it's worth it to me.

Oh, I get that's it's all volunteers. And at the time they were moving into their new space and I was busy with school so I wasn't too worried about it. Just saying I'll be curious to see how your experience goes.

Have you considered Twitter instead? I use it much more often than LJ and I find the short word limit fun in a different way.

Not so much. I'm internally navigating away from the MTV length output range towards larger iterms in my desire to present. But novel ideas, thanks.

And I keep seeing you try to reach me. If you can't me, it's always fine to call :)

Yeah, I've just about closed up shop, too. First time I've check LJ in weeks, actually. I've got a 300+ page PDF now of all my writings on here, which was surprising.

I'm in the process of starting up my personal site where I hope to start up writing again. Now that we've all got RSS readers and whatnot, I'm finding it easier to keep in touch with my friends on the net.
