you never know what's going on in another person's head when they're saying anything to you. all you can do is rely on how you feel, on what's in your heart, not what your head hears from everyone else.
your life may be in turmoil right now but look at what you are getting out of it from him (a great friendship, among other things ;)) and focus on that. things will settle down for you eventually and I hope they are the best possible things you could ever wish for.
