CHARACTERS: EVERYONE! LOCATION/SETTING: Grand Hotel des LaSalle DATE & TIME: 8:00pm, December 17, 2011 WARNINGS: teenagers at a dance SUMMARY: The Annual Reims Academy Winter Formal
[ Meiling has chosen to dress rather practically for this event. Her outfit is comprised of several soft off-white knit layers, coupled with tan wool stockings and a pair of plain leather loafers with low heels. (She doesn't really need to tower over everyone after all.)
Her red hair has been straightened out, even including the parts that are normally braided. Those sections hang down in front of her chest, a pair of black bow barrettes causing them to dangle whenever she moves her head or spins around.
The fancier parties aren't really her thing, but this school function has a whole different air to it. She's actually excited to be here, and it's hard to find her standing still. From the snack trays, to the punch, to marveling at the decorations and skipping across the dance floor, you can catch Meiling taking it all in. ]
[ Meiling's expression freezes, and she is eerily still after hearing that. It's similar to a conversation she had with her parents, once, after she had been at the school for a while.
"It this anyway for a daughter of ours to act?"
"You should consider the future of this family before you go making decisions for yourself. You will need to be prepared to take your place when the time comes."
What they meant was, she needed to be mindful of the future of the company and that she needed to learn her place. ]
[ The redhead blinks and, just like that, is back in the moment. ] Mm. You're probably right.
No, I think that might work, for you. [ She cannot separate her life like that. Meiling doesn't understand the point. She is true to herself; why isn't that good enough for her family? ]
[ Now she looks unsure for a moment, finger on her chin as she looks around to see what everyone else is doing. ] Besides talking and eating and drinking punch there's....
[ Sure it's called a "formal", but there are bound to be a few songs to get the kids to shake their groove things. Meiling drains her cup and tosses it into the nearby trash can. Then she holds her hand out for Sakuya. ] Alright, then let's do that!

Right. ] I think "holding back" is the same "missing out".
...or was that just a saying? [ Consulting that imaginary book, again. It does not seem to hold any answers. ]

Mm... I guess you could say that. It would explain why I miss out on so much...

I suppose I could work on maintaining on- and off-duty styles...

[He smiles, and laughs a little at the patting]
Though... what sort of thing should we be doing then?

I guess there's dancing.

[And then he looks out at the dance floor... this isn't exactly the same as the high-class parties he served at the mansion, is it?]
...maybe.
