I have some questions for a character I might reserve. The character in question is Geoffrey Tennant from Slings & Arrows.
1. In canon, Geoffrey can see ghosts, notably the ghost of Oliver Wells, who was a former friend of Geoffrey's, and in canon he acts kind of like a guide/annoyance for Geoffrey. He's the only one who can see/interact with Oliver, which tends to make people think that he's crazy. Would he still be able to see Oliver in the game? I wouldn't actually be playing Oliver, but I'd be making allusions to the fact that he is there in game.
2. How far should we go with the AU? I ask because a lot of Geoffrey's canon can still be applicable in the AU. Should I be making it different, or can I keep a lot of the events the same?
1. It is perfectly acceptable for Geoffry to believe he sees the ghost, but the ghost itself does not actually exist. People in real life frequently believe in ghosts and think they see them, so you are free to build your character along those lines. We do ask that if you wish your character to 'interact' with the ghost, you provide us with a reasonable explanation in the application for it, such as a mental illness or something similar that would cause the delusion.
2. Since it is an AU, those decisions are ultimately up to you. It's preferable to stick as close to canon as possible, of course; if you go too far they might as well be an OC!
These are two very character specific questions, BUT!
1. Is faculty/of age smoking allowed anywhere on campus?
2. Would it be okay if a character lived on a small houseboat right off the island? Basically just like him living in an apartment on the mainland but it's. A boat. |'D
1. Smoking is banned for students, along with alcohol and other drugs. Faculty have a small smoking lounge in the administration building and can smoke in their apartments (but will get glared at if they don't open a window). In addition, they can smoke off grounds and away from common student traffic.
2. A houseboat is just fine, as long as it's kept anchored at the dock.
Um, I really don't mean to ask this but what about graduation and things like that /)_(\ if they're a senior, how can we handwave that they're staying or something? Or can they move on up into faculty as unrealistic as that sounds...
In order to officially graduate from Reims, students have to not only fulfill their class credits but also complete a large, faculty approved project; sort of like a thesis paper, but of their own choosing and pertaining to whatever they're studying. Delaying completion of this project can be used as an IC excuse to stick around for an extra semester or two, taking higher level courses or just bumming.
In addition to that, while they may not become teachers right away, it certainly isn't unthinkable for them to get a job at the academy after graduation. There's a number of options available if you'd like them to stick around; let us know if you come up with your own creative solution!
All right! And how many semesters can we use for this /)___(\ sorry for asking.
And ah, okay! That does make a lot of sense and everything. Like school nurse, or secretary, or guidance counselor ... Hm. Thank you so much for answering my questions!
As many as you can afford, basically. There isn't a hard and fast rule here. Reims is a very...eccentric school- as long as the character continues paying tuition or can maintain their scholarship/sponsorship, they can continue to be seniors. Forever.
I am assuming that the school network connection for the actual Internet is also monitored and filtered, right? I'm thinking of apping a character who would make heavy use of torrents/filesharing programs and is a MMORPG player to boot, so I'd like to know what he can and can't do on the Internet itself. Most schools seem to ban that kind of stuff, so I'm assuming it's gonna be the same case here, but I wanna make sure just in case (cuz he would attempt it, hahaha).
There are heavy content filters for the internet on all school computers. Personal devices, such as laptops, are not under the same restrictions. There are certain exceptions to this freedom, of course. Say, if you're looking up instructions for homemade bombs and your roommate reports you. Pornography is also banned and will be punished if discovered.

Ah, okay! Thanks for the clarification. He is indeed bringing his own computer, though I guess I should also make sure there's room in the dorms for a student to set up a desktop computer if they have one? >>; Sorry for being so specific, I just want to make sure I get everything right.
