it had somehow escaped my notice that HBO and BBC are doing George R R Martin's Song of Ice and Fire.

That's going to be one epic, miserable bitch of a project, GLORIOUS.

OoOoh AND Terry Goodkind's Wizard’s First Rule

Terry Goodkind's "Wizards First Rule" has already been made into a TV series called "Legend of the Seeker".

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0844653/

Filmed in New Zealand (like Xena and Hercules) it's already on TV over here.

And, yeah, Re: Song of Ice and Fire, check out George's Livejournal (GRRM) for more info on the TV series (Peter Dinklage as Tyrion).

To save you having to trawl through all the other drivel on GRRM's LJ, here are a couple of the specific links on the TV pilot:

The question on everyones lips is - what happens when the TV show catchs up to where George is (i.e. end of A Feast For Crows)? I mean, he probably still won't be finished A Dance With Dragons by then.

I've seen bits of the terry goodkind adaptation - its not all that amazing. Done by the guys who did hercules and xena, and it really really shows. Its a very simplified version. Didn't really hold my interest.
I'm hoping the song of ice and fire one is better.
