Because I can't swear that I didn't give up, write them off as useless and give them what they expected because it was easier than trying to shatter that wall of rejection.

I can so relate to this. Being oneself can be hard when it results in rejection.

Yes, it is hard, but I have come to realise that ultimately, my being rejected was decided not over who I was, but over the fact that I was hearing impaired.

Kids are mean, if you're not their definition of normal they tend to reject you. I've been there.

I'm glad you've found your rami, Mode and I agree with you. You aren't the only one who only showed that group of friends one side of who you are as a person. And that's always a mistake.
