RE: Swine flu

Flist, don't worry.

According to the World Health Organization (here), swine flu:

• has a very low mortality rate
• cannot be spread by eating properly prepared pork
• dies at 160ºF

Not to say you shouldn't be taking this seriously, but I want to spread the good news that we aren't all doomed.

Yeah, the thing that people generally don't seem to notice about modern pandemics is how low the mortality rate actually is.

I kind of want a t-shirt that says, "I survived the swine flu, and... so did millions of other people."

If someone has the flu and seeks care for it, it's far, far more likely that they'll survive than anything else.

Once everything dies down, I think that would make a wonderful shirt. For SARS, too.
