Нет, рано ещё Лёшку списывать!
Вот говорил же я, говорил! Таких "игуан" я сам очень хачу! На порядок мощнее тех, что он под заказ делал три года тому обратно. Новый уровень, адназначна!
Кого бы ещё сгоношить их отфотать как следует...

No. Manuel is just a carver, he doesn't feel shapes and the nature of briar. His works are like the meerschaum pipes carved from wood.

I always had mixed feeling about pipes like these. There is a lot of that type of product on the pipe market. Exquisitely carved heads would be the closest sample that comes to mind. While I do appreciate the level of detail and workmanship that goes into a pipe like that, I don't really accept it as "pipe art". I somewhat agree with a comparison to Shaabi's octopuses. Manuel WAS a cabinet maker prior to entering the pipemaking trade and that does show in his work periodically. Yet, Shaabi CAN and DOES make a great looking pipe time and time again. I have not seen any great looking pipes from Khalamov. Like, I mean, EVER. To me, these pipes represent a good example of wood-carving craft rather than pipemaking. I have similar comments to Shevchenko, when I see his rusticated pipes - a whole bunch of work for a very little return on effort...
