There aren't that many graphic parts, but when it is graphic, she does an amazing job of keeping light. It is all more alluded to than actually told. It is shocking how she takes a rape, brutal murder, and subsequent falling apart of a family and mixes in moments of realistic humor and innocence. A really good book.
