Bella promptly scheduled an appointment with the Goths, regardless of all the reserves and concerns of her neighbors, who had good reasons to consider the whole situation extremely suspicious.
After all, still no one really knew what had happened that night at the crash site, or why Bella’s family didn’t seam to be looking for her before.
Only one of them, the one who was her closest and dearest at that time, Buzz Grunt, had encouraged her to contact her family from start.
They hadn’t always been close, though. At first their relations had been only polite, but never personal.
He was just the married neighbor with three boys
and a full time job in the military,
who lived across the road and enjoyed of long walks with his family on Sundays.
It wasn’t until much later, after Buzz had recovered from a heartbreaking divorce
and the sudden death of her ex-wife soon after,
when they started getting gradually closer, quickly discovering how much they had in common and how gratifying their mutual company was.
By the time Bella had finally learned about the Goth, they were more than just ordinary friends; they were each other’s confident, support. ….. And he was who drove her all the way
to the lushy lands of Pleasantview to face her past.
But of course Bella was there to meet Mortimer alone,
and so Buzz had only given her a last caring push
and promised to wait patiently as long as needed,
before she walked through the gate of the old wooden household
and knocked on the door ……

The elder man who greeted her, seamed extremely cold and distant for a husband who had just recovered his lost wife, but she soon discovered he had a good reason … same reason his children weren’t present to welcome her either ..
According to his version, Bella had ran off without explanation or goodbyes, only to send a heartless email about a week later saying she wasn’t coming back, leaving him alone with two children to raise, and forever tied to a woman who simply wasn’t capable of coping with the responsibilities of being a wife and a mother.
Then for the years that followed, he never dared to tell his kids the truth, who still believed the old rumors about alien abductions that started on their neighborhood after her disappearance. Finally was only searching for her now, because he wished to marry again and needed to get a legal divorce first.
His words left Bella not only heartbroken, but also puzzled and concerned. There seamed to be many questions none of them could answer, but she was decided to at least leave her side of the story clear.
She didn’t know what had happened, but it was a fact she couldn’t have send an email on the date he mentioned, simply because by then she was still recovering on the hospital with all her records under the name of ‘Jane Doe’, as she couldn’t even remember her own name.
But besides that, and above all, Bella was sure she hadn’t run away, she could feel it, as vividly as she was remembering other things since entering the household.
There was something there, in the air inside in the house, the fabrics of the furniture, the way the floors sounded when stepped on,
and definitively something on the elder’s eyes
that seamed to be pulling strings on the deepest corners of her memories,
though perhaps vaguely and blurry, still made her feel confided as ever. She knew him, she knew she had loved him and loved him for a reason.
Somehow she was certain he was honest, trustworthy and reasonable.
And so, hopeful, Bella continued telling him calmly, but honestly all about her whereabouts since living in Strangetown,
and the elderly man soon seamed more relaxed and willing, not only to listen, but also to tell her about the Bella Goth she didn’t know, the one who once was mother and wife,
about their life since getting married and most of all, about their family before…
and their children today.
Cassandra, their daughter had recently reached adulthood and was then engage with a neighbor,
and her youngest son, Alexander, had became an extraordinarily smart kid, but was too young to remember her mother at all.
He also told her about the Bachelors and her older brother who had passed right before she disappeared and how his widow was the woman he wished to marry now,
but by then Bella was so overwhelmed with words, images and sensations, she could barely digest anything else.
Finally she had the chance to see her children at last
and for her relief, Cassandra was sincerely overjoyed to see to be with her once more after so long,
and Alex looked obviously interested and curious, eager to know more about the mysterious woman who supposed to be his missing parent.
She got to meet them, talk to each one privately and listen to their stories as well as they listened to the true story of Bella Goth
… or at least as much as she could personally recalled it.
Finally after agreeing with Mortimer a date to clarify their martial status once and for all and promising to stay in contact daily with her daughter and son, Bella had finally went back to Buzz car
still shaking due to all the emotions she had be suppressing for hours trying to maintain her composure, and tearing out the frustration for the years lost, but feeling complete and renewed inside.
Regardless of all the blank pages of her past still left to be filled, she knew her life could only go up hill from there … and so it did.
From that day on Bella kept regular contact with both her children, over phone, emails,
and short visits
that only became longer and more frequent over time.
Unfortunately as life got increasingly better for Bella in Strangetown, it didn’t for her daughter in Pleasantview whose fiancé had abruptly broken up with her without any apparent reason
and after much struggled and suffering,
she had ended up moving to Strangetown
hoping a new start would help her to recover
Of course she was welcomed with arms wide open, so by the end of Bella’s long journey, not only she had a home and love, but also had found her family, was closer to her children than ever and seamed like life just couldn’t get any better….
… except for one detail she had never shared with anyone, because she refused to let it ruined her happiness and hoped it would only be a trick of her mind, nothing but a meaningless bad dream as it was, a nightmare that repeated almost every night.
It had started after that day at the Goth’s, after she had shortly caught the lightly familiar voice of her daughter ex-fiance dropping her off at the door
and was only getting stronger
and more perturbing over time,
but still every morning she discarded it hoping it would eventually go away…
….. After all She had more pressing and pleasant matters to worry about ….
((more soon))
