Remix Redux 10: X Marks the Spot!

Signups are open!

What you need to know:

Deadlines and minimums

Date for signups closing: 12 AM ET March 12

Date assignments will be sent out by: March 14

Date stories are due: 12 AM ET April 16

Date archive opens: April 22

Date author names are revealed: April 29

What you need to play

You must be willing and eligible to be remixed in at least one qualifying fandom.

To be eligible to be remixed in a fandom, you must have written:

1. at least 5 500 word permitted stories in that fandom, or
   
2. at least 7 100 word permitted stories in that fandom, or
   
3. some combination of the above (I.E.) 4 500 word permitted stories and 3 100 word permitted stories in that fandom

When determining your eligibility remember the following categories of stories must be excluded from your story counts:

1. crossovers
2. works in progress
3. any previous remixes you've written--that goes for remixes you might have written for other remix challenges, and not just this one
4. co-written stories, unless you and your co-writer have signed up together as a single participant
5. safe story (story you love too much to have anyone else remix. You don't have to designate a safe story, and you only get to designate one, so choose carefully!)

Other requirements

Your stories must be accessible--no locked LJ/DW posts, please.

You don't need to have your own website, but you must have an easily navigable index of links to your work. LJ memories or tags are fine, as is a pinboard or delicious or AO3 index.

You must have an AO3 account. If you need an invitation, please comment here with an email address and we will send you one.

Signing up

List of qualifying fandoms (see signup form or below)

Remember, you must offer to write in at least one qualifying fandom for which you are eligible (and list) to be remixed.

You can offer to be remixed in up to seven fandoms, but you can only request to write in five.

You can include non-qualifying fandoms in your optional tags, but there's no guarantee of matching on them.

Co-writers can sign up as a single participant.

Please read the signup instructions carefully. It's complicated! there are step-by-step instructions here. (the post is from 2010, so some details are different but the general idea is the same.)

Like Santa, check your signup twice. It's extremely difficult for us to rejigger the matching after assignments are sent out if you discover you've gotten something you didn't mean to ask for.

Matching

Matching is based only on fandom, not character and/or pairing, so you shouldn't sign up if you know for certain there's a pairing/character you would rather lose some vital body part than write.

You do not have to write in the fandom you're matched on; you can remix any story of your remixee's that catches your eye, provided it isn't a safe or co-written story.

Please note that Remix is not a gift exchange. While everyone hopes their remixee likes the story they've written, you are not bound by your remixee's likes and dislikes while writing. They have already written their story. You are writing your version of the story.

And finally, remixing rules

You can change anything but the following:

1. pairing (you can background a pairing, or make a pairing story gen, but no hetifying a slash story, slashifying a het story, or substituting the pairing of the story for your own OTP, please and thank you.) (Note: remember, there is no matching on pairing or character.)
2. essential plot points (this does, of course, require a certain amount of judgment about what essential means)

You cannot remix a story that has been:

1. designated as your remixee's safe story
2. written for any previous remix challenge
3. co-written, unless your remixee has signed up with that co-writer
4. listed as a work in progress by your remixee
