stumbling toward the deadline

Why is it that I 1) find myself carrying around an idea for a remix for weeks, 2) eventually jot down some notes for execution etc., 3) feel all proud of myself for being well prepared.... AND THEN 4) stall out, 5) go back to the list of eligible stories 5) pick a different one and 6) write a story completely different from the one originally ( Read more... )

Plotted and plotted for ages and eventually managed to get done something that took quite a different direction than intended :P

Feeling a bit panicky - I have about 500 words but need about 2000 for this idea. But I'll take some time out and get it done tomorrow!

Recognized my assigned author. Knew which story I wanted to remix, because I’d almost chosen it for a previous remix, and had some further ideas since. Couldn’t find the story. Found the story: wrong author. Wrote something else. Now hoping “wrong” author will sign up for Remix Madness, so I can do original idea after all.

So much panicking! I've changed my mind a dozen times now and still haven't broken 600 words on any of them.

Last remix the same thing happened to me, except in my infinite capability for procrastination, the decision to change stories came in the middle of the evening before deadline as I sat down to start writing.

I had it up in time, but god bless the week between deadline and fic reveals, because in rereading I noticed that when I tweaked the timeline mid-story, the plot as I had it on the page was literally impossible.

(It was an incredibly simple fix, and honestly most readers probably would have missed it, but man. That was embarrassing.)
