Also, on a lighter note, I have infinite love for this line:
They escape through some rather remarkably convenient ventilation shafts, topple the corrupt dictatorship with a megaphone and a few roughly paraphrased U2 lyrics, and are back to the TARDIS in time for tea.
Wonderful. Everyone is so completely themselves -- you almost can't wait to see who's going to turn up next, but every encounter expands the horrifying wrongness of it.
And, oh, the fade out at the end is just beautiful and painful.

I loved the whole thing, but especially the parts companions that I'd never met--they jumped right to life in my imagination while I read.
