This is lovely, and sad, and you almost have to wonder if the Doctor is glad to finally see them all again, even though it means his real and final death is coming. That if the universe is ending at his had, he at least gets to see his many loves before the end. And, oh, Rose . . .
Martha's was the right viewpoint for the original, the basic structure of the story, but the Doctor's viewpoint hurts so much more because he really knows what's happening. And the conversation between Eight and Leela alone was sufficient justification for this remixed version.
I read the first and it's chilling, but this adds an emotional kick to it. The guilt, and the moment of happiness in seeing Rose, and Martha stuck with him on the Tardis...
Of course, Sarah Jane was my Who companion (you always remember your first, I guess) and to read "His Sarah Jane" brought tears to my eyes.
Wonderfully lyrical and with tight control over the writing. How much I love this.
