Things are improving. My parents have electricity, phone, water, and yesterday got hot water back, and we spent most of today mucking out the basement. I pushed the muck into piles, Dad shoveled into buckets, my brother brought the buckets upstairs, Mom emptied and rinsed said buckets and sent them back. Not pretty, but the floor isn't four ( Read more... )

You can invite me! I promise I won't come!
Because I can't. ;_;

I've been to wedding much smaller than 80 people. Everyone will survive, I'm sure. Weddings are not cheap, everyone knows that. Or everyone *should* know that.

You are on the sure invite list, but knowing you can't make it is helpful for my planning. <3 Margaret is as well, do you know if she would be able to come?

I'll send you pictures. :)

My issue is that family is all 'You MUST invite ALL the family' which then excludes, I don't know, all of my and B's friends. Seriously, the list for B's family has 39 people. My friend Anne suggested I tell them 'you have X slots you can fill... you sort it out!' which would help.

Regardless I'm negotiating for help getting a bigger venue. The church basement flooded, badly, and might not be available anyway...

Nope, Marg probably can't come, either. She never gets consecutive days off of work.

What date is it set for? You probably told me, but I forgot.

October 5th. It's a ways out, but the invites need to go out soon so I'm going crazy!

Potential solution: Wedding for family and your besties. Reception BBQ (on a later weekend) for anyone who wants to come. Rent a park shelter, bring the charcoal, some condiments, a few games, and some water and tell everyone it is potluck.

Well, the problem is that the Chapel can hold more than enough people, but the only reception area I've been able to get is both tiny and currently flooded. There really aren't a lot of options without making everyone drive 12-20 miles after the wedding.

It is a potluck, actually. :) And we'll have rice crispy treats for the cake. (We'll have to buy or make corn free marshmallows, but then it will be safe for both B and me.)

I'd meant a bigger park reception later on, but it seems you have a better solution!

OMG! I am totes throwing a tantrum if you don't invite me & all my BFFs!

Best of luck, & congratulations on cleaning out your basement.

Oh, noes! :) My mom actually wants me to invite her BFFs, and I don't even know them. It's making me crazy!

Thank you! I'm feeling pretty good about helping with the basement. It was cold, wet, and painful (in addition to exhausting), and I acted like a Real Grown Up (TM) and didn't complain until afterwards when I was home with B! My brother didn't complain either and actually showed up, so, win!
