Healthy groceries cost so much more than less healthy choices? I just spent A LOT of money at the grocery store-and we even ate before we went so we wouldn't fall into the shopping hungry trap! Of course, we did get some prepared stuff and that always costs more but I think the organic stuff just costs more. Sigh, whatever-just feeling grumpy about ( Read more... )

I hate that it costs more to buy healthful foods. If this country was so concerned about obesity in its citizens as it claims to be, McDonald's would be more expensive, and fresh fruit, veggies, etc would be cheaper. It's all backwards.

Organic stuff costs more to grow so I understand why it's more expensive to purchase. I disagree that healthy food in general is more expensive. I hit Produce Junction every week to two weeks, purchase a banana box of fruit and a banana box of veggies. My bill is usually about $30. Meats can be expensive, but often chicken breasts can be found for 2 bucks per pound and I load up when I find them at that price. Whole grain rice, healthier (low or no sugar) cereals, canned tomatoes, dry beans...these are all very inexpensive but healthy food items.

*shrug* Just my 2 cents.

ok, apparently I need to hit produce junction! Part of my problem right now is that Sue has medical issues that require specific stuff and she seems to head for the prepared foods that meet her requirements. Prepared foods cost more so....my bill rises
