I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind again today. The concept of the movie is interesting to think about. Would you rather completely wipe someone from your mind if you feel that the bad memories or resentment that you have for them would make thinking about them unbearable, or is it better to hold those memories and focus on the good ( Read more... )

I've actually never seen this movie but I really would like to from what everyone says about it.

Anyway, I think it would be ok to erase someone from you memory as long as it was justified and not just in the spur of the moment without thoroughly thinking about it. Also, what if you erase everything you thought about that person and then happen to run into that person again and they want you back, you wouldn't remember what they did to you so you might just fall into a cycle again and end up where you were in the beginning. If that makes sense. It made better sense in my head.

I don't know...I mean there are people in my past I'd sooner forget but they helped shape my life, for better or worse. They provide lessons. Scars make you a little wiser for the future. Erasing the pain doesn't make your future brighter, it just ensures you'll be quicker to cut yourself.

Some people I'd really like to erase from my memory, but I probably shouldn't because I'd probably end up making the mistake of dating the same type of people.

I think I'd do it, though I'd second-guess myself right up to the end. There are some memories that are really bittersweet, made so because there'll never be any more like them. While I learned a lot from them, I think I'd be a much happier and more productive person if I didn't have those memories and I'd have those memories obliterated if it were possible.

I just saw that movie for the first time a few weeks ago, but I'm really not sure I'd erase anyone. Not even my brother.

There are a few memories I'd probably be better without, but entire people who had an effect on the person I am today? Probably not. I've been through a lot and I think I'm a stronger person for it. Without my experiences I might be as bad off as my older sibling, if not worse.

I'll just keep my past and learn from it, and try to make a better future.
