Got an interview with Tahmoh. Lost finale tonight. Anaheim and Ottawa in the cup finals. Lots of good friends. Okay, maybe not lots, but it's quality, not quantity that matters.
So what if I can't feel my hands right now? :)

On a more serious note, I'm so sorry to hear about the health issues you've been having. I hope things start to get better. You will be in my thoughts.

My mom was JUST diagnosed with Diabetes II last week. It scared her pretty bad until they told her that she could control it with diet and exercise. It will be 10-15 years before she needs insulin.
BTW they are working on an inhalant version of insulin. Insulin as a hormone is destroyed by HCl in our stomachs that's why it can't be taken orally. It will be SO COOL when they have inhaled version!
I wish you luck with the neuropathy, I have it too, there are somethings they can do if you're in pain, not much if it's numb :(
Also, if you're typing alot you'll need to take more breaks, as that exacerbates the neuropathy. Get a ergonomics assessment and make sure you're doing what you can to help your hands. I have to used fingerless gloves to keep my hands warm.

I go from nothing to pain to numbness and back again all in ten minutes. Sometimes the pain is the worst kind of pins and needles, sometimes it's just a dull ache. A little frustrating at times to predict, and I can't be taking pain killers all the time. I'm still working with the doctor for the best way to manage it.
Thanks for the heads up on the socks, Lark. I'm gonna take a look. :)

a community that follows pain research (I used to belong)
I take gabapentin (generic neurontin) for the nerve pain and tramadol for break through pain. Sleep is important in maintaining pain levels, as is stress management.
I recommend having someone look at you holistically - not just as someone with pancreas issues. The endocrine system is so complex and intertwined that it is rare for one condition to not affect another. I also recommend 2nd opinions :)
If you ever need to vent about the pain without someone telling you to "suck it up" I am here for you.

You deserve a win. See, that silly expression my mother always used to say, "good things come to those who wait," wasn't all that silly after all. (But, that may just be me being overly cliché. Blame it on the summer courses.)
And psh, like you need hands for anything anyway :D
But seriously, I hope your health thing gets better.
