Payback is a bitch ..
How Gibbs managed to walk up the path to his house, holding Kate in his arms - and the two chocolate mousses - was anyone’s guess. When he got up to the front door, Kate turned the handle, and Gibbs kicked the door open. Kate giggled as he did so, and wrapped her arms around his neck.
He turned slightly and sidestepped through the door - so Kate didn’t hit her head - and once they were inside, he gently put her down.
“What’s this?” Kate asked, a big smile on her face. “I don’t get carried upstairs?” Gibbs let out an amused snort. Kate pouted. “Don’t even say it!”
“Wasn’t gonna.” He replied, smirking.
She walked up to him, and he put his hands on her waist. “Tonight was lovely.” She said to him quietly. “Thank you.”
He nodded in reply. “I’m glad you enjoyed it.” Kate smiled at him for a moment. She ran a hand through his hair, before stepping back. Gibbs noticed the change in her, and asked, “What’s wrong, Kate?”
“Oh, it’s nothing.” Kate said, trying to avoid his gaze. But she noticed the look on his face, and sighed. “I- I was just thinking, Jethro.” She said, looking down at the floor. “Today is Valentines Day, and we have been dating for over a year.” She stopped talking, and for a moment Gibbs thought she wouldn’t say anymore. But she wasn’t finished. “I suppose… I just thought… that we were in a serious relationship.”
“What makes you think we aren’t?” He asked her, a little more firmly than he had intended.
The firmness in his voice was what gave her the courage to say what she said next. “The fact that none of our friends know about us,” She said, putting her hands on her hips. “And the fact that, even though we have been dating for over a year, we aren’t living together. If you were Tony then not only would we be living together, but I would probably be knocked up by now! I-”
Gibbs stopped her by holding his hand up. “Don’t compare me to DiNozzo, please, Kate.” He said, taking her hand in his own. She couldn’t help but giggle a little. “As for living together…” He continued, kissing the top of her hand, “My door has always been open to you. You know that.”
Kate smiled a little, but rolled her eyes. “If that’s an invitation to move in, it’s a pretty lame one.”
Gibbs just grinned. He leaned in slowly, and brushed her lips with his own. Before he pulled away, he said in a low voice, “In two minutes, I want you upstairs, naked, and ready to be smothered in chocolate mousse. I hope you aren’t too ticklish.” He added with a grin.
Kate looked at him, mock-scandalised. “But-” She started to protest, but Gibbs held a finger to his lips.
“Payback is a bitch.” He said, before smirking. “Right Kate?”
Kate poked her tongue out in reply.
