It could also be that they're merely waiting for the opportune moment. Sometimes it's easier to allow others believe you've grown complacent while in reality that isn't the case.

Oh, so you think they are just trying to deceive the Malnosso? I doubt the community as a whole just decided that someday behind the Malnosso's backs or whatever.

I'm afraid I can't speak for the community at large, but to think that at the very least, some among them have not considered such a thing could be seen as an insult to their intelligence.

To rush blindly into something without prior knowledge and information is tantamount to suicide. I would sooner bide my time than go looking for trouble.

... I suppose that's just where our ideas are fundamentally different then. I'd rather do anything at all than waste the rest of my days here as a lab rat.

Even if you call it a near attempt at suicide or whatever.

But if you knew you were unable to break free of the cage, wouldn't it be best to wait until such time that the guard is lowered or at the very least, distracted with other things?

And have you ever seen such a thing happen to their guard in all the time you've been here so far? I haven't seen circumstances change, and I've been here for more than a few months already now. I can't just wait around here forever.

...considering that I haven't been here a month yet, I can't say one way or the other as I have nothing to compare it to.

Ah, so you're sitll new and filled with hope that such a thing as them letting down their guards might happen often.. If it wasn't a little sad to see such a naive hope, I'd almost say it would be a little cute.

It doesn't have to happen often. It just has to happen once. There is no system so perfect that an opening can't be found and exploited.

It's true that it only has to happen once.. But how long are you prepared to wait for such an opportunity?

I'm already here, aren't I? There isn't much else to be done but wait, so I suppose the answer would be however long it takes. Success isn't something that happens overnight.

People have been stuck here for years, and yet no really big organised escape attempt was made.. I'd say guidance is needed pretty badly in that case.
