If she's 70-80 she probably has pretty strong feelings about Americans. Feelings dating back to 1950-1953. You are pretty unmistakably American. When I was in okinawa I met a few people (old people) that where pretty excited about meeting american soldiers. Not many mind you and none anywhere near a base or any point a soilder had reason to be.
