How odd that anyone would call someone that in a professional setting. Maybe he's hot for you. Not that it would make it okay.

i would tell him to back off. i had a coworker who called me "sweetie" at my last job and it made me furious. i know he meant it in an affectionate way, but i don't think that guys realize that it's belittling even if they don't mean it to be.
