I have decided to try, and have gradually, over the years, come to put in action, designing web pages the right way; separating content and layout with CSS, using
tags rather than laying everything out in a table which, according to PROFESSIONAL WEB DESIGNERS, is Against The Sacred Laws of Table Usage (thou shalt only use tables to display tabular ( Read more... )

Please keep trying, man. Wrangling for two-and-a-half hours with a bugged-out router this afternoon taught me that I am a largely clueless fool concerning all things internetty. BUT, more importantly, it taught me to keep pushing and digging until I got it right, even if I'll never know exactly how the hell I did it in the end.

Sorry, that's kind of a lousy parable. Point is, Ragu, I know you've got what it takes to pull this off, even if it's frustrating as hell. If it takes a bit longer to get the page up again, we can wait. I hope you succeed.

I wouldn't worry about it. I am nothing if not pigheaded and unwilling to admit defeat. My working style basically involves screaming and cursing and beating my fists against inanimate objects and nurturing an aneurysm until things eventually come together. But thanks for the vote of confidence.

It took me several days of intermittent css fiddling with a two month break in the middle before I had something that I wanted to use (meaning it looks like a html page). Yet in the end I was still dissatisfied by it, and that was all just for a wordpress page. Even now, when I look at the various associated php and "styles" doohickeries I'm not always sure what refers to what or how much of it is junk I put there.

Hahaha, don't even get me started on trying to deal with Content Management Systems. "Look I don't see why you really need your page to look different, our templates are pretty good aren't they?!?"

I've been using a system that is about eight or nine years out of date for Ecchi Attack because oh it has documentation and it was straightforward and not completely baleful to anyone who would like to customize it to fit their personal vision of the page. I'm going to be trying a modern CMS for Andore Jr. because I would actually like a functional comments system that isn't just a blinking neon signpost to every spambot in East Asia, and I'm already starting to feel the migrane coming on.
