Since you seem a little unsure, I'll offer you my thoughts. The colors and lighting are great. You look lovely My only 2 qualms are: On the left side, I wish I could see more of your face/neck. I can see what you were going for in the pose, but I feel like if we could at least see your chin then it would still look...just right. Ya know? In the right photo, my only thought is the lip makeup. I see you were experimenting, but it kinda makes it look like you have a soul patch!(lol)
I hope you don't mind me offering my thoughts on this. It's still very lovely work!
Nah, I hear you, esp. on the lip makeup: it looks that way to me too when viewed small. Think that optical illusion would go away if I just posted the headshot? (so it has to be viewed large?)
Well I definitely like the headshot the best of the two, and it would look great on its own. The moustache effect is definitely more pronounced when it's smaller, but it still looks odd, somehow, to me in the larger. Maybe you could try a version of the headshot, photoshopping the lower lip makeup out?
I don't think you should worry about the lip makeup looking like a soul patch - it obviously isn't (but then again, people are a bit dim), but even if one were to think that at a glance, it adds a more regal look to the images in my opinion.
As for the images themselves, I don't even want to critique because you are a much better photographer, and far more gorgeous than I could ever be. However, I'll say that the portrait shot on it's own didn't seem strong enough (and then you get a bunch of idiots who can't understand what the feathers are) on it's own. I think the other shot does work next to it, but it needs to be closer cropped, because there is all this negative space.
But my god, I have to say, your fella is a lucky man!
Thanks for the thoughtful crit (I really do appreciate it, and don't belittle yourself!!).
I think this set just needs to be reshot :\ The pictures had enough potential to make me want to work on 'em, but they all have some unfixable composition flaw :
