Somebody tried to steal our car last night. Our driveway was empty when looking out this morning-found the car 300 yards down the street with the hood popped, vital engine parts stolen, the CD player (and our case of burned CD copies) ripped out and gone. We figure the only reason we still have the body of the car is that Kory installed a kill- ( Read more... )

Luckily Kory did have the foresight to get theft insurance, BUT, there's a $500 deductible and a lot of the parts that were stolen were nicer after-market pieces that came with the car when we got it (ie, no reciepts). Thus, I don't know that we'll be able to get the insurance company to pay up since there's no papertrail proving we had the fancier components.

Ouch...yeah. That's exactly why Kory insisted on having burned copies in the car; he knew someone who had the same thing happened. Thieves broke in just to steal that person's CD case. It's still going to be a pain to replace tho, as it was a nigh-full 100 disc case.

Seriously!! There was blood and hair on our car tho, so the police have DNA on file now. I take a lot of schadenfreude in the fact that our vehicle attacked the bastards back.

That is so messed up :( That's why I'm scared to get a nice new car. I live in an area of Minneapolis that is filled with gangsters who have moved from Chicago.

Our car isn't even nice looking--it got sideswiped by someone a few months ago, and the cosmetic damage hadn't been repaired yet--the only reason we can figure it was targeted is because there's a large market/demand for Honda parts (the car is a 2000 Civic). It was probably gangsters that tried to jack our car too; there's a town about and hour and a half away that has tons of mexican gang activity, and they spill out and commit crimes in our area.

Reading the above, gods, we have no automotive luck D:

First precaution on our list: sell this bloody Honda and get a car with less vapour pressure.
